synthetic oils (amsoil) in 4 stroke outboards

Kodiak

Question

Do any of you guys have experience or opinions on using the marine synthetic 4 stroke motor oil 10/30 in their 4 stroke outboards. I have a 2002 merc 90hp 4stroke that i am thinking on going synthetic on?

Kodiak, I run Amsoil in a '77 Jonny 35hp 2 stroke. When I first bought it, I had all I could do to keep it running. I switched it over to Amsoil and within the 1st tankful, I could tell there was a marked difference. That was 15 years ago this coming summer. I use that motor on a 24' pontoon so it's not being babied, more often than not, it's at full throtle. Seems like every year it runs better. As stated previous, you WILL be giving that motor a longer life span. Phred52

I run Amsoil 4 stroke in my Yamaha 115 4 stroke. Its given me better starts, better trolling and I think a bit better gas mileage. Its a bit pricey but get on Amsoils Prefered Customer program and its not bad at all. I also use Amsoil filters, lower unit lube and stabilizer at the end of the summer.

With AMSOIL make sure your get the Marine grade. AMSOIL Marine 10W-30 and Marine 10W-40 carry the NMMA FC-W specifications - you can use it in new 4-stroke outboards under warranty and have full warranty protection. (AMSOIL's automotive oils do not carry NMMA FC-W, and yes they are different.)
