how to store auger

Pary

Question

I'm done for the ice season and was wondering how everyone stores their auger. Does everyone go by the manual and clean everything or just empty out the tank and run it til it stalls? Is fuel stabilizer a must? tia.

Run Sta-bill in the fuel (I like the Marine Blue Formula personally), and store..it works for me.

I disagree with completely dry storage of the unit as the gaskets may dry, shrink, and crack. I run a good mix of Sta-Bill in the last tank and run it down, but not dry, and store upright.

I do the same as Ed but I just use seafoam, mainly cause I've never gotton around to using stabil whistle and have had no issues yet over the last several years, I use amsoil also which I think has a bit of a stabilizer in it also, maybe oilman can chime in on that.

I will put in Sta-bil but like to have a 1/4 tank of gas and go out and start it every month just to keep things lubed and burning. I also use nothing but non-oxy gas in all of my small motors (everything but the car and truck)and I sure that makes a difference.

So this is what i plan to do. Put stabill n with the mix gas i have left and run it down til it's dry or stall then store it for til next season. Does that sound about right? I would like to run it once a month but I don't have the time and it's being stored in a basement and to much of a hassle for me.

I always use non oxy gas with seafoam and run all my 2 strokes dry. Never had a problem with my augers, chain saws, weed whip etc etc. in over 30 years. Has anybody really had a problem with so called dried out seals that the can state "positivily " that that was the problem and not just bad gas etc.

AMSOIL Saber Professional is not rated as having a stabilizer in it.

HOWEVER - I have seen and gotten reports of many different 2-cycle machines that were put up with no other storage protection, left for 2 years, gotten back out and cranked and run on 2nd or 3rd pull.

Bottom line, experience tells me it does the job. But I would recommend the use of fuel stabilizer in non-oxy gas as the best insurance.

Straight out of the SM Manual for Lazer Mag Express:

STORAGE

DRAIN FUEL SYSTEM:

A. Drain fuel from tank, but leave it in carb, if you choose,

or leave stabilized fuel in tank and run engine once a

month.

DRAIN FUEL INTO APPROVED CONTAINER OUTDOORS,

AWAY FROM OPEN FLAME. BE SURE ENGINE IS COOL.

DO NOT SMOKE.

NOTE: Tecumseh Gasoline Stabilizer is an acceptable

alternative in minimizing the formation of fuel

gum deposits during storage. Add stabilizer to

gasoline in fuel tank or storage container.

Always follow mix ration found on stabilizer

container. Run engine at least 10 minutes after

adding stabilizer to allow it to reach carburetor.

CYLINDER BORE:

A. Pull starter handle slowly until resistance is felt due to

compression pressure, then stop.

B. Release starter tension slowly to prevent engine from

reversing due to compression pressure. The position

will close both the intake and exhaust ports to prevent

corrosion of the piston and cylinder bore.

CLEAN ENGINE:

Remove any clippings, dirt, or chaff from exterior of engine.
