Banded eagle of Burntside Lake

Hey all:

Been awhile. I was out laker fishing on Burntside near Ely today when I heard the whoosh of wings and looked up to see Mrs. Eagle. She perched nearby, giving me time to whip out my camera, and then took off.

All with the Canon 1D3, Canon 400 f5.6L, Canon 1.4 TC II, iso400, 1/1000 @ f8, Ai servo focus mode, +1 exposure compensation.

Thanks guys. Never seen a banded eagle up here before, but that probably just means I missed the band a time or two.

Just curious Steve, how do you know it's a female?

Size, Don. Females are bigger than males in quite a few raptor species, including eagles. It's easy to see if you get a good look at at mated pair of eagles.

She is a bigun...Look at that wingspan!!! Love that shot, it puts those mighty creatures in perspective. I bet she can't wait for some open water either!
