Goals and plans for 2010

Recommended Posts

The days are starting to get longer around here, which means that spring and summer are just around the corner. So what are everybody's plans and/or goals for 2010 in terms of trips, exercise, whatever?

My wife and I are planning another Montana trip in July/August, this time around the Bitterroots. Hopefully I'll get in some mountain biking and trail running while we are out there. I'm also hoping to do a casual weekend bike trip or two with the wife down to the SW Wisconsin driftless area. As for daily exercise, I'll skate ski and run until the snow is gone and then switch over to running and biking. I also want to ride the metro mountain bike trails a little more this summer. Running wise, first up is the Chippewa Moraine trail race (WI) in April and then Grandmas in June.

Right now I'm focused on staying in shape and prepping for the City of Lakes Triloppet in June. Completing that is one of my big goals for the summer.

Talking with my sisters about heading to Grand Marais for the Ham Run in early May.

I am heading to Isle Royale for a longer backpacking trip to end the summer season.

Got an annual trip to the BWCA with my 11 year old daughter. Been staying on shorter routes setting up a base camp the last three years, now it's time to push it a bit further. She's a great camper and likes to explore. We'll be heading up to Knife Lake to try our luck at the Lakers, smallies and hopefully a few Northerns.

As far as excercise goes, I've gotten into Inline Marathons. Going to try the Baxter race in June, St.Paul half marathon in August and the Northshore Marathon in September. Looking to get into skate style skiing next winter. Tried it a few times years ago and really liked it.

my goals for 2010...a 22 inch Largemouth, and a 50 inch Musky.....my old records are 21 and 49 respectively. And more importantly, getting my son (he will be 20 months old by mid summer) to catch his first fish. This may be impossible, since he is all over and doesn't stay focused on one thing for more than a few minutes...but i want him to feel the tug of a fish on the line and get hooked early!

Tripwise, nothing big planned this year (and an extra week of vacation this year means quite a few long weekends). I'd like to go camping a couple more times that last year and explore some of the North Shore State Parks we have not been to.

Otherwise, I hope to bike to work 2-3 times per week as weather allows and log some more miles with my wife on the new bikes we bought last summer.

Red latern- get the kids started on the whole BW thing when they are younger. I wish I would have started doing wilderness trips at a younger age. My mom is pushing me to take my nephew out in 2 years when he turns 6. Its a great thing to get kids hooked on.

bringing up an old thread. grin

my goals for the year were to give up the smokes and get back in to pedaling.

Those goals were quickly modified to include a 500 mile goal before snow flies (already over 200 miles) and to commute to work as often as possible.

Im now down to at most 1 smoke a week, I commute at least 3 times a week, Ride 10-15 miles on evenings and weekends, run all my errands on bicycle and am considering equipping my beater Schwinn for winter riding/commuting.

how are all of you doing on your goals for the year?

Nice work Shizzy. Your lungs have to feel great I bet, yes? Great job!

As for me, I had a decent spring and summer with lots of running and biking mixed in until a few weeks ago. I ran the Chippewa Moraine 50k (31 mi.) ultra trail run in April, the Stillwater Marathon in May, Grandmas Marathon in June and the Voyageur trail marathon in July. But then I was hit with Lyme Disease a few weeks ago which set me back. But I'm feeling stronger now and looking forward to running again and a couple/few more run races this fall.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
