jwmiller33
how much would one expect to pay for a used canoe? like cheap as possible?
traveler
I wouldn't expect much for less than a couple hundred, and you'd have to find someone pretty desperate even at that. Alum wouln'd be my firsat choice for fishing...noisy stuff. I've had a couple plastic (Royolax) and they rock:)
thedeadsea
Alumacraft square sterns have a tapered back end, easy to paddle if you aren't using a motor. Grumman are built better. There are some other older off brands that pop up here and there. It is going to cost you around $300 to get a decent one. SkunkedAgain
Eight years ago I bought a used Grumman for $400. The guy at the outfitter said that the difference between Alumacraft and Grumman aluminums was that Alumacraft used rivets and Grumman had welded seams. That was enough of a sales pitch for me.Aluminum can be noisy when fishing, but an old carpet remnant will cheaply fix that issue. Now you've got an iron war horse that is only inferior to a more expensive canoe due to weight.A buddy has a Roylex that I've used several times. Seems like a great canoe, and certainly lighter than my aluminum. If I had to buy a second canoe, I'd probably go Roylex.
Duffman
Used square stern canoes seem to be a constant wanted item. They get snapped up pretty quickly when offered for sale. And since they are popular and somewhat rare, the prices on a used one are usually more than expected.
Wish-I-Were-Fishn
Try running a "wanted" ad
squeeb27
I just picked up a coleman 14 foot scanoe from Dick's for 300, they are on sale until Sat. It is a bit heavy but cheap and wide.

Saw that ad. It brought back a lot of great memories. My dad had one with a 2hp Johnson on it. We had more fun with that then I do with my high buck fishing boat now. Great for river fishing for smallies in the upper St. Croix, Rum, or Mississippi Check out the one-man boat loaders. Makes loading it a lot easier. Enjoy! little kid
I know you said aluminum, but I wouldn't rule out a Coleman poly-canoe. It is a little heavier (17' RAMX), but it is VERY easy to fish out of, and it really takes the abuse! Have had it for 15 years and still works great.
