bsherck
Good news.... Temple Fork Outfitters will have a booth at the Northwest Sports Show and everyone will be able to check out the new rods. They're absolutely awsome.
panfishpounder00
TFO makes some really nice quality fly rods, i have used them in the past and had no complaints about them! good for the beginner.
Comit 2
Quote: good for the beginner. I have 5. I would say; their rods have everything you need at a fair price. A Great warranty too!!! Beginner rods? I think not!
Craigums
Doesnt Gary Loomis have something to do with these rods?
bsherck
Yes, TFO signed on Gary to revamp the blanks and essentially redesign the conventional rods to his specs. He did much of the work with TFO's engineers. He seems pretty happy to be back in the game!
bemidjibasser
bsherck- I think you may have these confused with North Fork Composites, which is the company that Gary Loomis is a part of now. They only produce rod blanks, not finished rods.
TR21HP
Temple Fork Outfitters is the company Loomis is conculting with.If you go to their HSOforum they talk about the rods and Gary's involvement
NTW
Boy, Gary has touched a lot of companies... I think I've seen his name associated with Lamiglas, G Loomis, Shimano, TFO, North Fork Composites, Coastal Conservation Association. And I've never read a bio so I'd guess there are plenty of others.
bsherck
Bemidji,You are correct, Gary is part of North Fork, but he's neck deep in the TFO project as well.

Comit 2
2-3-4pc rods. Something to keep in you trunk to test the May and June shallows or in the pontoon boat.
bsherck
Ralph,They're still working on retail outlets. TBA. For now, you can purchase online. Stop by and see us at the Northwest Sports Show and we'll see what we can't do about getting a few rods in your hands. Best, Bill

panfishpounder00
Quote:Beginner rods? I think not! why do you feel these rods are not addequate for the beginner? i felt the blanks offered a smooth and notacible load when false casting, wich is a huge help when learning to fly cast! g-loomis i feel use a really stiff blank, i know of alot of guys who fish steelhead religously that are switching to sage for this very reason. i personally have switched to redington for all my gear, i feel these rods give me the best of both worlds, a good solid backbone and a smooth forgiving tip section. Craigums
i think he means that they are so nice that they shouldn't be concidered just beginner rods
panfishpounder00
ahh, i see... well i dont think of TFO as bieng a high end rod, now the best"bang for your buck" yes! for sure. but the rods that i use are not even in the same catergory as far as price range, this is why i feel they are a good "beginner rod" , priced in the low end spectrum, but have the feel of a high end brand. Larson15
These rods are only IM6 graphite which would put them in the beginner/low budget category.
Comit 2
Quote: These rods are only IM6 graphite which would put them in the beginner/low budget category. Boys and the price of there toys. What I'm saying is there is more than likely no better rod in the world for the BWCA. IM6? The only one who cares about what the rod is made of is the guy holding the rod. We are talking about a back pack rod here. IM8 would be to brittle for this application. I find it much easier to throw a tight loop with a fast rod. That was MUCH EASiER! So I would say a more expensive (highend) rod would work better for the beginner. Then again I don't need a tight loop when nimphing do I?
Larson15
I am referring to the new bass rods they are making.
bsherck
If you haven't fished the Axion or TiCrX series, you're missing out on high-end rods. About two years ago TFO did the old Pepsi challenge thing and most folks picked the TFOs over both the Sage and Loomis. Everyone makes pretty good rods these days. I'm just partial to the TFO folks, because they're friends....
