I have a seperate GPS on my console, and another seperate GPS by my kicker motor. They are awesome with the detailed map data that is available these days --- I can zoom way in, and the larger display area shows me plenty of info for what's coming up.

I use a split screen combo unit on my bowmount trolling motor, which works fine because I'm going slower with the bowmount motor and have more time to react to the smaller display.

I've thought about getting a separate chartplotter to add for up front. They are nice to use so you can stay on a particular ridge or depth or path. Be nice to have a fuul sreen to itself to study

I think I still would like the option of the sounder to see what the terrain looks like down there.

Dont mean to bring Brand names into this but with Garmin's 3 dimensional perspective fisheye view and marinereye view for there chatplotter is sweet. The only problem is they only offer this for something like 34 lakes in Mn. This might change with the new Lakemaster chip coming out in July

When I upgraded my electronics I was all about getting a split screen combo unit..........Then I talked to the experts at Profishing Supply

I learned I didn't have a clue. No surprise there. grin

After a LOT of talking, pros-cons, blah, blah, blah about all the options I ended up getting a seperate sonar and chartplotter/GPS. I'm very glad I went with seperate units. The bigger screens are easier to see, the seperate units are easier to operate (I've never been accused of being a rocket scientist), and good high quality mapping is more important to me than seeing little fish symbols.

Also, it's one more fancy thing on the boat and it helps me look cool. grin

I have 2 seperate units, much easier to read and chart you course/ see your course. I got my Globalmap from Cabelas out of the bargain room, the day I was there they had 50% all electronics. Looked the unit over, everything was still in original packaging, it was just missing the MMC card tray. Got it for $109, normally over $600 and I was able to get a MMC card tray from Lowrance for $12. There are some deals out there, just have to look.

I had 2 units on the dash and just put 1 up front and kept my new Bird on the dash. I can split however I want. I like watching the fish and depth on 1 side and gps on the other. 2 units just took up too much space and was harder to read at the same time.

Just the way I like it. A lot of guys like 2 seperate units.
