Transducer clicking?

Rymann

Question

Is this bad or not? I just picked up a MarCum VX-1 and got it all set up. When I turned it on the transducer started clicking reasonably loud, and when I hit the IR it lessens but never completely goes away. My Vex FL-8 has never done this. Any help would be appreciated.

Clicking, as in, transducer is out of the water clicking? Perfectly normal. I also have a Marcum and it does the same. Think radio frequency bouncing off of the bottom of the lake back to the unit to analyze what's down there grin It's a good thing. Your sonar works perfectly. BC

Was fishing yesterday on snowbank and my buddy's vex was making all kinds of noise all day long while the transducer was in the water, but we have a Showdown and that doesn't make clicking noises or any of the noises that vex was. Although if it's outta the water and you put your fingers on the bottom of the transducer it gives you a shock!

Interesting that the showdown shocks you...My vex always clicks and like others said thats normal and how you know its working. Its like a submarine ping only much lower frequency that bounces back and based on the time and signal strength produces what you see on your flasher screen but whether or not fish can sense it is another matter...

All of them do if you hold them to your ear! The Marcum's are louder because they put out so much more power! The clicking is the signal pulse it sends back and forth to read the depths. wink

I guess it's not really a shock, that's just the only word that's close to what it does. Try it sometime dunno if it works with other rigs...

casey, I think you maybe thinking of the two different noises a Vex will make. The clicking noise from the duser, and the whirling noise of the light dial inside the Vex. The Sundowner will only have the ducer clicking noise because there is no light dail running around inside. But you will not hear the clicking when either units duser is in the water. smile
