mozy
Has anyone fished this lake for LMB and SMB? It's a lake I would really like to try out. I've heard it's good for smallies, but haven't hear much about LMB. Are there large numbers of fish and is there a chance for 6+ pounders?
Cecil
Good numbers of 2-3 pound fish (especially SM) with a decent LM population. A 6 pound fish out there would be VERY rare.
TonkaBass
Lots of 17" smallies with a below average largemouth pop. but some nice fish... 5 pound largemouth are not out of the question... 4 pound smallies are rare and I have only got a few in the fall as a 19" fish wont weigh nearly 4 pounds on that lake. primetime49
you will get a lot of 2-3/4 to 3-1/2 small mouth the number of 1-1/2 to 2-1/2 largemouth have really increasedchances of 6 pound smallies are zilch only 1- 6 pound category fish has been caught in a tournament [largemouth -caught by jason bassit 2007]under a dockchances of a 5 pound smallie are probally tops for artificial bait, old bass locals with live bait do catch these often. tritonman
I live just north of the lake and fish it quite often. While you can catch a ton of 2 to 3 pound smallmouth, the 4 and up are rare. Most tournament take 3.5 average to win. The people that say they catch 20"er's all the time are blowin smoke. There is an unbelieveable amount of largemouth in the lake and 100 fish days are not that uncommon but the size is lacking. Lots of 1 to 2.5 pounders. Irish
I know guys fish the large ruck/rubble flats for smallmouth but where do you find the largemouth? Is there much vegetation in the lake?
basssmasher*
There are plenty of bucketmouths in Green, size is the issue. i know a LOT of people would follow the outlet into the marsh and catch big largemouth, but it isnt acessible by boat via green lake anymore
Juan Grande
I know Mille Lacs is bigger, but Green is a big lake itself. Why does Mille Lacs have so many more big smallies in it? Does the C&R regs on Mille Lacs make that big of a difference?

T-water
I'd also say the availability of cisco in Mille Lacs makes a big difference. There are some in Green but not nearly as many. Cisco = big fish!
primetime49
Green Lake had one of the most aggressive Small Mouth bass regulation's ever put on a lake in Minnesota. It lasted 9 of the 10 years it was to run.It increased the number of sm by 3 to 4 times of what was in lake before this 10 year catch and release. Some of the remnant small mouth were still being caught upto 3 years ago. These were caught deeper than 25 feet and with live bait.I do know of several people that caught these upto and over 7 pounds. The amount of crayfish in lake has almost completely deleted. The remnant big fish are gone and in my opinion their own competition for food and space has caused this. Also the number of northern pike have also diminished and Walleye do not reproduce naturally any more in lake. This lake has cycled due to nature and man.Come to Spicer June 13th Sunday evening and listen to some good pro seminars on both these Bass and yes in another space Walleye.Early evening with supper available.Next day fish the Minnesota State bass or walleye Championships and see if night before has taught us anything about where to fish for size.Seems everyone is still fishing for numbers. The outlet to Calhoun has always been federal waters off limits to boats with motors.A few years ago 1 tournament let the rules slip as they did not announce this as off limits and the only boat that went in won with full limit of Large mouth bass. You can paddle in and it is a blast. My opinion on Mille lac it will also cycle to give more but smaller Small Mouth Bass.It has few spots for Large mouth also even thou its a very large lake.Watch and see .
