Please share your tips on jigging spoons

Northland Buckshot and Forage spoons are a good choice, many sizes and colors. Lindy Rattlers are also a good choice.

Jigging is something you have to almost figure out for yourself. How often you jig and its aggressiveness all depends on how the fish reacts. Having electronics really speeds up the learning curve.

Start with buying some buckshot spoons and lindy rattlers for walleye and perch. Again, depending on the bite, you will want to try different sizes, colors and different jigging techniques. The fish will help make your decision.

I am relatively new to jigging for Walleyes/Perch and just want to know how others work Lindy Rattlin Flyers, Buckshot's, and other jigging spoons. Slow and steady? Fast and furious? Or?

Do yourself a big favor and go down to the Walleye forum and start reading through all the post and you will spend the better part of a day but it will be well worth it because you will pick up a ton of good info.

Just started using a buckshot spoon last weekend. I got my fish by jigging up down about 2-3 inches until the fish would rise up to it on the flasher and then jiggling it side to side slightly until they bite.

A very sensitive rod helps greatly to detect light strikes.

As for the original question.. Putting too much bait on the hook is a bad thing.. I think its very important to only do a minnow head on a jigging spoon Or just a minnow tail

Then I just suggest letting it down the hole a little and practice.. look down the hole and look to see what your spoon does when you try different actions..

Then, its just different every day.. Some days the fish want it still, some days slow rises, some day s hard jerk-baits.. just got to let the fish tell you what they want that day.

Let the fish tell you what they want. I mean try different things

start with 1 foot and a half lift let it fall pause do this 2 or 3 times then hold it there 15 seconds

be sure to pause. they hit on the pause

As a general rule I start out agressive and work more passive if the fish wont hit my presentation.

Here is my most basic cadence.

Lift/drop, lift/drop, lift/drop let settle and pause. Do all over again and agaian.Maybe add a jiggle after the pause. Once fish come in shorten the strokes and raise a bit. If they keep coming up keep taking it away.

If they wont hit the agressive stuff I will do short lifts with some popping of the rod tip mixed in. If that doesnt work I go from a head to a tail. If that dont work I do mostly jiggles in slow lifts and falls. If that dont work I go to a smaller or spoon with less swing. If that dont work I go to a jig n minnow.

I've been using the smaller Northland Macho minnow glow. If things are slow around prime time, charge that thing up and slowly put er down to the bottom. I can't count the times I have had hits by doing this. The glow colors really work.

When I'm jigging I can do alright when they're aggressive enough to follow it up, just keep it slowly going up, but where I have a problem is detecting the bites when your bait and the fish 'meet' on the Vexilar. I've tried setting the hook at that point and most times there is no fish there.

Whats the key if they're not real aggressive, when you just get the 'bait sniffers'.
