olbaidhh, the wind turbine appears functional?...is it running lights or anything for you?
yes its fully functional ... it runs all the lights, heater fan, inverter to run tv and dvd etc. and a battery charger to charge batteries.

Kudos. Why burn gas if you don't have to?

When I was a kid, someone told my Dad a story about how when they were young and crappies slow down they'd bang their ice scoops against the side of the holes. We tried it and it worked -- consistently.

fish are funny and sometimes they seem to be drawn to the noise and other times they avoid the noise........if I am fishing in under 15ft and I have a bunch of holes drilled I will start fishing at the first hole and go from there but if over I don't worry about it.....just this weekend fri and saturday I was in 35 ft of water and right after I drilled the holes I dropped the ducer in the hole and it was lit up like a x-mas tree!!!!

1-2 pulls and it fires up, drilled 10 times as many holes as last season, all smiles here.... cool

back on topic, I seem to have had the best fishing once I make some noise or crank up the radio for a few minutes.

Neat. I'm assuming 24 or 48 volt dc output inverted to 120ac to run the tv and dvd, and then using the 24/48 to run dc lights(?) and charge the batteries? Mind if I ask what type of inverter you are using, and what brand of wind turbine that is? I would like to play with wind and/or solar panels as a form of alternative energy to run a few things when out on the ice and I like your setup. Thanks.

I took a friend of mine out icefishing, that is confined to a whellchair. This year there was little snow on the lake and the ice was thick. We were out on the lake first thing in the morning and no one was around. I drilled a 8" hole for him right outside his window of his van, slushed it out with the auger running and walked around the front of the van. I proceeded to start drilling the next hole when I heard him honking the horn. He had a 5 lb laker on the ice. (auger still running 10' away)

No its only a 12 Volt system everything in the house runs off 12v DC or 120 AC. 24 or 48 volts are more for going off the grid and running something larger like a home. This PMA is 12v 500 watts. The inverter is a 2000 watt (WAY more then needed) to run the TV DVD etc. 2000 watts only for the microwave. Most houses could do fine to run a tv, dvd and radio on a 500-1000 watt inverter or less.

The Turbine is a PMA (permanant magnet alternator), it is a slant core design. It has the outside of a GM alternator but the guts are high tech. (although your standard GM alternator would probably do fine for my application) The PMA just produces more power at slower speeds and has lesser start up speeds. I got the guts for the PMA, the blades, tail, and mount for the PMA from Missouri wind and Solar. The rest of the mount and hookups I made. Here is a link to a lot of this info I already covered on this site.

Here

I think that covers your questions... let me know if there is anything else. The Misouri wind and solar site has a LOT of info.... Good Luck
