help with eskimo

Friday night I bought a used 8 inch Eskimo Earthquake. Yesterday I went to try it out and the power head runs great. The problem I'm having is that it doesn't want to cut. It took several minutes and a lot of pressure from me leaning on it to finally get one hole cut. I put brand new blades on so I know that's not the problem.

Any ideas?

Not trying to be sarcastic but have you got the blades on right side up ? That or they are a bad set if your having to lean into her hard .

First off welcome to HSO these guys on this site are great as well as all ther einfo they give out.

check make sure you got the right blades also check make sure they are on the right way. sometimes the blade need to be shimmed to bet them to work but I'm not sure about the eskimo's on that.

sometimes if you shim the back side of the blades they will cut better i cut a strip from a pop can and put it under the back edge of the blades on mine

Sounds like there was ice frozen to the edge of the blade.

I would check the ice build up. If not the problem it sounds like the blades are out of alignment.

I also have an Eskimo Baracuda and it takes a while to cut holes. Someone said it was maybe because it doesn't have a spike to drive in to the ice to keep it from moving? Could someone weld something like a spike onto the bottom to solve that problem? I also need to put a fair amount of pressure on mine to get it to cut. Kind of annoying.

Are you sure that what you have is an ice auger? The Eskimo Earthquake is an earth auger.

Earthquake is the name of the powerhead and doesn't have anything to do with the auger itself. It's an ice auger.

Earthquake is their line of post hole digging augers. Probably the wrong type of blades.

I replaced the blades with brand new ones. Are you saying the auger itself is not set up for ice?

Check the ardisam site, they have a line of earth augers named EarthQuake. You could probably order the Ice Auger to fit the powerhead tho.
