Question

My son dropped one of my decoys in the hole and it "swam" away today. Anybody know how far this may have gone outside of the hole?? It is a fairly heavy decoy and I am in about 13 feet of water. It is brightly colored but I can't see it right now even looking way out from inside the house.

Fortunately it is a $15 sporting goods variety decoy if I can't recover it...

Your going to have cut a hole about where you think it is and look for it with a fish camera or just by good sight and try to retrieve it. Good luck with that, have had to it myself.

That's a good idea to use the camera first. Hopefully it didn't completely dart into the silt at the bottom.

Next question is how do I retrieve it when I do find it?

You're going to want to drop your camera down near the decoy and then drop a jigging spoon or something with a treble hook on it down over your decoy. Just watch the camera and try to get a hook into the eye you tie your line to on the decoy. After that all you have to do is reel it up and put it back to work.

he said what I was going to, treble with a camera is your best bet, hopefully you know which direction it went so you have a general idea of where to start lookin. Good luck I dropped a trout decoy I made last year in 25fow its a gonner o well you might have a lot better chance in 13fow tho good luck!!

If it has metal fins your best bet to retrieve it is a magnet.

if not metal fins, use some electrical conduit, duct tape it together to get the length you need, I took electric fence wire and made to "C"'s to craddle it, take your time pulling it up.

Spearhead's way it the best if you have metal on it.

It does have metal fins but they are pretty small, might work if I can find it...

Use Hard Drive Magnets if you can get some.

They are very strong.

If you have an old hard drive laying around you can dismantle it to get the magnets out.

Once lacated tape a landing net to a pole and start to scoop the bottom this even works when your glasses disapear into the silt if the approximate area can be located.
