JBMasterAngler
Urban Meyer leaves florida due to health issues. So what's the deal? Does he really have health problems or is he jumping ship to save his reputation before florida is riddled with controversy due to off the field antics? I'm thinking florida would've finished 3rd at best in the conference next year, but now I'm thinking they may land anywhere from 4th to 6th. I get the feeling he'll be coaching again in 3 years. I'll take this oppurtunity to start the tim brewster to coach florida rumor
Big Dave2
Looks like my Crimson Tide team not only knocked off the Gators and Tim Tebow this year they also knocked out Urban Meyer and darn near gave him a heart attack If Meyer is stepping down for health reasons, the rumor should be that he is coming here to coach the gophers. There would be no stress on him here. I'm sure he could easily win 4 creampuff non-conference games plus 2 conference games, lose the rest and become "bowl eligible" every year. He should be able to meet our yearly expectations without breaking a sweat.
AuggieDawg11
There has to be more to this story. I support the Tim Brewster rumor
zepman
Stress, stress and more stress...it will wear a guy down, literally. While not knowing the specifics, I believe there comes a point of zero return. What I mean is that no matter how many games you win, championships you bring home etc..., the feeling of accomplishment no longer exists. Classic example of burn-out.I wish him and his family well...I'm sure we'll see him down the road sometime in the not so distant future. Dan189
I think people should take it easy on the guy. There is a reason the majority of NCAA coaches are alcoholics, to deal with the stress. He is on top of the mountain, and dealing with more than most of us can even fathom. I think he made a very tough decision, and I commend him for that!Would we be singing a different tune if he collapsed of a heart attack at age 47 because he kept the job? I wish him all the best in his future!
MarkAlm
I am not what you would call a sports fan, but my son had won a 3mo. subscription from Sports Ill. and a couple of weeks ago they had a great article about Urban Meyer in it. It told of how he has had health issues in the past.
CJH
What type of health issues??
Scott M
minor heart defect, lots of chest pain. I believe the guy, innocent until proven guilty. It's gotta be hard to walk away having been that dominant, he gives up a lot of power.
JBMasterAngler
News update!Less than 24 hours passes and he already changes his mind! Now he's just taking a leave of absence, and will be coaching again come the start of next season. Is he gonna be flip floppin' like brett favre now? Dan189
ok. JB, what if fishing was destined to give you a heart attack in the next five years. Would you give up fishing, even though many doctors say that you'll have a great chance of heart attack or death?(i know many ppl will say yes, they don't care, but that's because they don't have to be faced with the situation)The man is struggling with a personal decision to do something he loves and was born to do, (and risk his health); or to give up his passion for the sake of his family. There are very few people that can contemplate the difficulty of the decision this man is going through.I am usually the first to jump on the flip-flop band wagon, but this situation is much similar in some ways to favre's, but different in many more. Out of respect for coach and his family this is one instance that I think the majority of the people should give the man some slack.
Big Dave2
I can certainly respect Urban Meyers decision either way, but this is a HUGE decision for him. It's not the kind of decision you make so quickly that only 1 day later you change your mind. His decision to coach or not to coach at Florida, not only effects him and his family but the whole Florida football program. I would have to believe that recruiting just got a little bit tougher when the new recruits have no idea who their coach will be next year let alone 3 or 4 years from now. Uncertainty in a college football program is NO GOOD. Even Brewster will probably get a contract extention to avoid uncertainty.
JBMasterAngler
My only knock against him is he picked a very poor time to announce he was leaving. Obviously it didn't end up mattering, given the result of the game. But in the future other coaches are going to be able to use that against him when it comes to recruiting.
