tip up leaders for eyes?

I like the Floro leaders in 10# test for tip up leader material. I conect to my coated tip up line with a barrel swivel. On the hook end I go simple with a colored bead and a good quality hook like a gammy in a #4 or #2 for bigger minnows. I like Golden shiners or big healthy chubs.

Pretty much the same as Northlander.

I use a snap swivel on the end of the vinyl tip-up line, Berkley 100% Flouro (4,6, or 8 lb), approx. 4 ft., tie loop knot on one end, up to three beads, a split shot, and hook on the business end. I tie up quite a few with various combinations with or w/o beads and various hook sizes and colors to match the size of bait I will be using. Clearer the water the longer I make 'em. The snap swivel makes changing set-ups quicker and having a few on hand takes the hassel out of dealing with it on the ice. A lindy rig holder keeps 'em ready at all times.

I use 6# flouro, it is critical that the knot is well lubricated before you begin tightening the line. Otherwise the knot strength will be compromised.

A friend of mine used 30# knotable steel leaders and he catches just as many walleye as I do when we are set up next to each other. Apparently winter 'eyes are not as line shy as in the summer, I haven't changed my leaders though.

I use 8ld fluro. I tie a bunch of leaders with differrent colored hooks. All are within a 1/2 inch in length with a barrel swivel. I have a snap on the end of my dacron, makes changing out from the occasional snot rocket a breeze. I also use the smallest bobber I can find as a depth set so I can reset quickly. Just real the line up so the bobber hits the guide and drip it back in the hole.
