mhines
Well first off, i'm a long time fisher, but am fairly new to ice fishing. I have tried it a few times, but plan on doing more this year. I have a few questions? How many tip ups can be fished by one person at a time?My second question is about shacks. Do portable shack have to be licensed? I see in the fishing regs, it states you need a DNR number or Drivers License on the out side. Does that mean even a portable shack?? I will be fishing only in MN, some inland waters, and the Mississippi river. I have read through the MN Regs online, but im still confused! Thanks in Advance! leech~~
Two tips ups just line two rods. Portys have to be signed, but not Lic, if you stay in them. They must be Lic, if you leave them unattended. Have fun Ice fishing!

mhines
So I think i understand this.............I can only fish 2 lines total-----1 pole/1 tip up or two poles/no tip ups...........a friend thought you could have more...............but i trust you guys more! And as far as a sign on a portable shack, what are most guys using? DL number, or name........and how to write it on the shack. It will not be left on the ice unattended.
walleyeslammer
I wrote my information on the back of a plastic for sale sign and stuck it in the plastic holder on the door of my otter. Figured that out after 10 or so paper ones got shredded.
hambone842005
I went out and got the two inch reflective numbers from the hardware store and put them on a heavy peice of cardboard cut to fit the holder on my house. I used my DNR # as I figured that it is harder for people to steal the DNR # for privacy reasons.
dairyman
I ran my DNR numbers off my computer printer and then taped them to a piece of cardboard---worked good
CrappieNut
if i remember correctly the #'s need to be 2" leagaly?maybe someone can confirm that
timjones
It is best to use your DNR # as this gives out minimal personal information. Most portables have some type of plastic sleeve that you can but your number into. I just cut a piece of cardboard to fit the sleeve, put my numbers on it with a black marker, at least 2 inches high, and then stick it in the sleeve. You can leave your house unattended during the day without a license, but if you leave it unattended between midnight and one hour before sunrise it has to be licensed. RonWBasser
I used the back of a plastic for sale sign as someone else stated. DNR number, 2" high.

Troublehook
ok im assuming its the "customer number"?
Phred52
IF you look carefully on your fishing, hunting licenses, it starts with "MDNR#: 000-000-000". THAT'S your DNR Number, It stays the same throughout your lifetime. Phred52
Phred52
mhines, Take a look at the very top of page 61 in the booklet. It ALSO states that you must remain within 200 feet of your tip-ups. Watch how far apart your tip-ups are as if you're observed stepping outside of that 200' range, you can be cited for 'unattended line'. I have witnessed twice, the CO measuring 2 occupied holes distance with a steel tape. Phred52
