Connecting camera to boat battery

I got an underwater camera that eats batteries. I got boat batteries in my basement. I got this brilliant idea. The camera came with a cigarett lighter plug. I thought I would just go to the salvage yard and get a cig lighter, clip it to the posts of the boat battery and plug the camera into the cig lighter. I am not all that technically savvy, is this gonna work? Thanks.

go to autoparts store and buy an plug adaptor with clamps. will be much easier, safer and cheaper than digging on out of a junker. hook the red to positive black to ground and make sure it has a fuse in it.

It will work fine. I have 2 12volt deep cycle batteries I bring every outing and run all my electronics that I have in the house. Vexilars, cameras for underwater viewing, TV, cellphone,DVR Player and also my inverter to run my sattelite box. Have a great day Rick from Rockford, Mn.

Yeah, they sell receptacles with clips for doing just this. Fleet Farm's got them for under $5.

Try Radio Shack or Fleet, but be sure to wire an inline fuse right off the battery before the socket. That will prevent a short from giving you a bad day!

The fuse should be 7 amps or so. Maybe someone with a camera can post the best number here.

i would say the best number would be around 2 amps. being that fuses are like 50c a peice and cameras are around $200 or so..
