Portable License Question?

Silverbulletguy - read my post earlier. ALL shelters must have identification on it. Only need to have a license if it is left overnight unoccupied.

Not to be an a$$, but of all the jacked up rules the DNR has (hard to follow, not clear, etc...), this is not one of them. Pretty clear.

• All shelters placed on the ice of Minnesota waters must have either the

(1) complete name and address, (2) driver’s license number, or (3) the

nine-digit Minnesota DNR number on the license of the owner plainly

and legibly displayed on the outside in letters, and figures at least 2 inches

in height.

I guess it does say OWNER and not user so...

Some guys marker their numers on it and when you buy it used I would just leave the number on it rather then marker over it and make it look worse.

on the Trap-Link part of the yukon there is a License window thing to slide in the number

Same thing on my Fish Trap Pro. There's a long, narrow clear sleeve sewed to the back door of the portable made for this purpose.

I bought 3" reflective sticky numbers, cut a piece of clear Lexan plastic I happened to have laying around the garage from an ill-fated bird feeder repair project some years ago, stuck the numbers on the plastic (my DNR number) and slipped it into the sleeve. Been there 3 winters now with no problems and can't tell it's there when I fold/unfold the shack.

So to stir the pot just a little more. I believe even if you set up some plywood to block the wind that also needs to have the required info on it. ANYTHING being used as a shelter. I was also told a few years ago (prior to changing the license laws) that if you sat in your car it needed to be licensed. Never been questioned about that though and probably was fed some b.s. on that issue. But a shelter is not defined as having 4 walls and a roof, it could just be something used to block the wind and now it becomes a shelter. I am sure the CO's would give a little slack there but for the possibility of a $185 ticket I would rather err on the side of caution.

You'd think the vehicle's license plate would count here...

So I will take my DNR number and put it on the dash when truck fishing.

Interesting point?

A truck is a shelter..hence...by the reading of the law...one should have the DNR# displayed.

OK...Lets just simplify this....How about we all just get DNR# tattoos? smile
