DAWBSKI
When the lake is iced capped how much ice can be made in a day when the temp is 32 or bellow ? I know that there are allways other factors that will play in, basically im am itching to get out! Just trying to figure out a rough estimate till im ripp'n lips thanks. bobbymalone
Obviously, the colder it is the more the ice is made. I think that is about the only guarantee.
JigginIsLife
i would say a conservative estimate would be if the temps are hitting highs of about 20s and lows near 0 i would say, (pending no snow) around 1/2 to 3/4 of an inch. this does not take into consideration any current, wave action and nor does it suggest its uniform. but i would say if conditions are right and the nights are cold, around that. jwhjr
This chart was on one of the threads here last year.
JigginIsLife
guess i was too conservative... seems awful fast though doesent it??
deadeye
That chart seems about right. If the water temp is right it will freeze pretty fast. We had a just over a inch of ice form in like 4 hours on a COLD early ice trip a couple years ago. It was just under 0 and it was windy so im sure that helped too. McGurk
Here's a best case scenario for right now: 20 degrees, little to no wind, and no accumulated snow. It would take 4-5 days to get 4 inches of ice, 3-4 more days to get 6 inches of ice.
DAWBSKI
Thanks, this looks like good news to me. Since the daytime high temp isnt getting above freezing anytime soon.
mozy
I was out on about 3-3.5" today. That ice was formed in 3 days with avg temp probably around low 20's. So the chart seems accurate to me. If the forecast is accurate we'll probably be seeing ATV's on the ice by the end of the week.
