fsh4trout
This year comfort was an issue for me. My butt hurt from sitting. I had a cushion but it didn't help, tried sitting on a bucket, wasn't really comfortable either. Should I break down and just bring a folding chair into the woods? analyzer
I kinda do. I set up ground blinds, with my plastic patio chairs inside. I dig the back legs in enough so it's in a slight reclining position. It's very comfortable. Almost too comfortable as it is easy to fall asleep. But I can sit in any of my blinds for hours. My son will sit open to close, and there's no way thats gonna happen in a tree stand.I even set him up with a blanket or sleeping bag in the blind. He didn't need it this year, but in other years it's been the difference between getting cold in few hours, or sittin there for 6 or more.I send him with a zip lock to pee in, and generic food to eat, like carrots, so the smell isn't an issue. A good book, and he's all set. Although, I told him not to read if the wind is blowing at all, because he won't be able to hear them walking by. 96trigger
What kind of hunting are doing. I am assuming that you are on the ground. Have you ever thought of a blind? If you are uncomfortable, you are moving. Deer can see movement real easy. Instead of a chair, try a turkey vest if you are on the ground. Put a blaze orange vest over it and see how that goes. I would not be much for a bucket or a pad. They also sell nice seats that attach to a tree. Lots of possibilities out there, many of them are probably better than a chair. fsh4trout
I'm on the ground. The pop up blinds are nice but I don't believe that you can leave them up on public land. Someone could see it and just climb in. A brushpile blind could work. That could be a good off season project. I could stick a chair in the middle. 96trigger
The Ameristep blinds pop up in seconds and can come down almost as fast. Don't be afraid of them. They pop right up out of the bag, four quick stakes and two rods through the roof. If you are in a hurry, forget the rods through the roof and just hunt. I have also shot deer tucked into a deadfall, sometimes I climb up the fallen branches get comfortable, and try and blend in. If a spot is hot, or I think I can ambush something by doing it, I will. MrCrappie
Try the tripod swivel stools. They're a lot more comfy than the silent spin bucket seats.

crothmeier
a backrest is the main thing i think. i found a fallen tree to climb into this year that had a seat/backrest/footrest that worked perfect all while being hidden in the branches. hopefuly the tree doesnt rot too quickly so i can get a few years use out of it! zzammon
I have a platform built in a tree. I use a fold up, in the bag chair. Quite comfortable and relativly quiet. In the bag and over the shoulder while walking. Bring it out opening morning and leave it till I'm done.
