DRH1175
I am picking up a new leupold scope for xmas. He is replaceing a cheap scope. Are his current rings fine or should I upgrade those as well?
sparkydm
Don't go cheap on bases and rings. You didn't say what's currently on the rifle, but make sure they are good quality pieces. That expensive Leupold scope deserves decent mounts.
Borch
I love the leupold dovetail mounts/rings. They are rock solid.
paul pachowicz
Leupold, Burris or Redfieled of are about the same top of the line quality. I kinda make this example; you can have the best radio in the world but it ain't worth a darn unless you have a good antenea. Don't mess around, replace em!! They are the dovetail design. Now comes the question/option of one or two piece base and the low, medium or high rings. I prefer the low mount rings and one piece base. Why isn't life simple?.....LOL

DRH1175
I have the leupold 1 piece on mine. I am not sure what the heck he has on his gun. Maybe I will just replace for him. He was ready to throw the gun away. I told him it was just the piece of [PoorWordUsage] simmons he has on this gun.
Jmnhunter
I have weaver mounts currently on my odd 6 and it seems like the scope doesnt want to stay "sighted in"; although i sight in regardless every year, it seems to be off quite a bit alot of times. regardless, i'm switching to leopold next year, i have leopold rings/basses right now on my 22-250 and they are solid! DRH1175
The problem we are having is we sight it in at the range, get it dead on. then when hunting can't hit a thing. It seems be be a couple feet off. The rings and base seem to be tight, nothing is loose. We are blaming it on the scope. I am picking up a new leupold scope. Maybe it could be the rings as well. Guess I should pick up a set of those as well. For his rem

Jmnhunter I had that same problem some years ago on a 257 roberts bolt action that I had and I had the barrel re-beded and it curred the problem and its still driving tacks today well at least for my bro inlaw who I sold it to. DRH1175
Re bedded? How do you do this? Can it be done on a Rem 760 pump 30-06?
Gordie
not that I'm aware of its only done on bolts and singles I think
DRH1175
I can't imagine that the accuracy issues are the barrel, or gun, but most likely mounts or scope. Being it is a simmons scope now I am hoping a new leupold or Nikon will fix the issue.
lawdog
IF you want THE BEST in rings/bases get Talley Manufacturing one piece base and their rings. If you want real good stuff, get the good store available rings like the Leupolds...
Jmnhunter
i think my problem was that i kept my rifle in the back to the truck and with the rough roads bouncing around in the back all season didnt help
