AaronM
I'm looking at getting circa 1980 Lund 18 foot tiller. It's rated for 55 HP. Would there be any problem putting a new 50 4-stroke on it or would it need a 40 considering the higher weights of motors today and more torque? Any help would be appreciated! SkunkedAgain
Everyone above is correct, although you are the only one who knows what kind of condition the transom is in. If it seems weak, then you should have a smaller motor or replace the transom. The max was for when the boat and its structure are within specified ranges, not after 30 years of possible neglect. delcecchi
Many of the Lunds had transoms that were basically aluminum with a hunk of plywood to attach the motor. So there is nothing to rot or degrade, if so.
