Stepping grate for door entry?

Does any know where you can get a steel stepping grate that you can secure with hinges to the bottom side of your permanent house door? Also it hangs by chains when in use!

Anybody have any experience putting these on a house?

I was at my friends house last year and it seemed like a great idea so when you step outside of your fish house you aren't slipping on ice and snow and crack your head in the doorway!

Also you can knock alot of snow off your boots before entering! grin

When you have snow on the bottom of your boots some of the steel grates are more slippery than ice.

If you found one that had some nice grips on it it should work good though.

Check the iron yards and get a piece of steel grate (it is used for catwalks) they can cut it to size for you.

Drill the holes in the sides for the chains and hinges.

Then lag the whole thing in good to the side of your fish house.

I'd try an RV dealership..I've seen some of those on RV's before. If you're handy, maybe a mobile home dealer..remember those black steel grate steps in front of them...be easy to saw off a step and go from there....

go to a semi truck dealer. they use similar on the steps, we used them on fire trucks for a while, i had to raise the foot rest on my wifes quad (she is only 4 ft 8) and used the same thing. they fit perfect ran two bolts into the rest to hold them. even a truck body shop will have it.

That is refered to as smooth bar-grating, size looks like 3/16x1 1/4, it comes in numerous different sizes and comes in 36" x 20 or 24' lengths, they will usually sell it by the sq ft though. They also make a serrated bar grating that has little "nubs" on top for traction. Grip strut is completely different it's diamond shaped grating that comes in peices usually 6 3/4" x 2 or 1 1/2, 9 1/2x2 or 1 1/2 ect ect all the way up to 18" wide, just do a search of grip strut, it's usually galvanized so you wouldn't have to worry about painting it.
