Grayfox
We left Wisconsin Thursday morning at 3 A.M. and started seeing some dandy bucks just north of Des Moines, as well as a lot of dead ones on the freeway. Got a picture of this guy as he came running up to the road. He was a little closer but couldn't get the camera out in time. Also saw two other giants near where we'll be hunting, one was chasing a doe and the other crossed the road into a corn field with his nose to the ground. Here's a few pics of the property we'll be hunting. A bunch of CRP grass with some thick timbered draws in the back. Saw guite a few tracks in the dry creek bottoms as well as coyote and bobcat tracks. I put out three cameras as well so I hope to get a few nice shots. There's a front coming in tonight and hopefully they will be up on there feet the next few days. I'll try to update tomorrow night when we get back in. dust_stl
Missouri is one of the best kept secrets for a chance at a real booner buck. There are a lot of public hunting opportunities especially the farther south you go. Shannon co which is near the Ozarks has more public hunting land to hunt more land than there is private land. Tags are all over the counter anyone can get a tag most counties have unlimited doe tags. Non resident is 225 for any sex and 25 per doe tag. We have extended antlerless season as well muzzleloader. As for the bucks most counties have had antler restrictions on them anywhere from 1 to 4 years so there are going to be more nice bucks in the future seasons. Find the counties that have had the antler restrictions the longest and there you will find the older bucks. I have the itch so bad its not funny 3 more days.... Grayfox
Sheepheadslayer, we're hunting West of Hatfield. My wife and son had a big 10 point and a doe come in at first light but they didn't get a shot off. I had a big 8 run by at 250 yards but it didn't slow down and I couldn't get on it this afternoon. Pretty slow and not much shooting. Talked to another guy from the hotel and he said there wasn't much movement in his area either. Looks like rain for the next couple of days. Talked to a couple of Iowa CO's who were looking for a guy at the hotel tonight. Sounded like they had a pretty good lead on him. He told me they get a lot of guys buying a Missouri license and then jump the border and hunt in Iowa. Hopefully tomorrow will be better. It's amazing how many big deer are down here. We saw a giant in a ditch this morning just East of the town e're staying in and almost hit a GIANT just South of the Iowa border tonight on the way back to town. The thing had at least 7 points on the right side and if I would have been a little slower to the brake I could of told you how many were on the left as well as a pic of the carnageto the truck.
