Father's Pride

Nope, no pictures of deer killed by my daughters. Just a story: My youngest went to town to get a soft drink and noticed a young man standing by his a pickup. She asked if he'd been hunting and how he'd done. He replied , "just this one." and showed her a fawn in the back. She resisted saying how cute it was, and said that it was a nice one. He replied "It's just a fawn." She looked some more and told him she was pretty sure that maybe yesterday it was a fawn, but today it was a day older than a fawn (her grandpa's line not mine). As she walked into the store she met the young man's father who thanked her. I guess the poor guy had gotten it pretty hard back at camp for taking a fawn, but it was his first deer! Moral remember your own first deer and how excited you were. Be that excited for other hunters on their trophies!

The memories and the stories are the real trophies, the kill is just a bonus. Quote from my grandfather who past this fall. He will be missed but not forgotten. Great job InTheSchool teaching your daughter the real reasons why he hunt and fish.

I like to believe that kindness gets repaid over and over. Carrie went out the afternoon of the original post and shot her first buck! It was close to dark and she got turned around and we weren't able to recover it that night. I had to work yesterday so she went out by herself sat in her stand a few minutes and figured out her mistake, climbed down, went to the spot and found hair and followed the trail of more hair 25 yards to find her trophy. Then she field dressed it herself, drug it in and had it skun and hanging when I got home! I'll add a picture later!

Very nice, reminds me of the story last year about the guy that had to help some jerk-baits girlfriend drag her buck out of the woods, because so calld jerk was at the bar and wouldn't believe her. Your daughter sounds like a classy gal. Nobody should ever belittle someones deer. When they pulled the trigger, it became their trophy. I would never razz anybody over their first either. I have been doing this a long time and there are times when a deer comes in alone and looks bigger that it really is. Happened to me last year.

Funny thing is, those little yearlings taste the best, so why would anyone even think about giving another [PoorWordUsage] over it. I think a lot of it is jealousy. When I got mine last year it was one the only one shot opening weekend. On sunday as I was skinning it out because it was the only one hanging, I asked them how small it looked now. I didn't get a response.

BTW, Please post pics and tell her that we on here think she did a great thing.

Very impressive daughter you have there.....Her encouraging words to the young man were great. Her actions the following morning...follow trail, find, gut out, drag out, hang and skin....were super. Is she a teenager? Incredible if so. How many of your daughters could/would do that by herself on her first deer?????????
