Early Ice...when...???

Heyllo

After years of ice fishing you think a guy would have this figured out...I can't seem to put a date on early ice.

When can a guy expect to be able to walk out on the metro lakes?

And when can a guy drive out on Mille Lacs? Trying to figure out a couple of trips up that way.

Obviously each year is a bit different, just trying to get a good idea as to when I might put a couple of trips on the books.

I've got water temps in the high 30's, I'd say north central Mn where I'm located I'll be ice fishing in one month, hopefully 3 weeks though laugh

I always say the last weekend in Nov. or first in Dec. a guy should be able to walk out and drill a few holes!!!

In the metro water temps are in the mid 40's. We'll need some of those single digit lows and highs in the 20's to get things really going. We still have a month before that gets here, but ya never know.

Safe drivable ice on Mille Lacs? It's just too early to tell. I thought a plow truck went through last Jan on Hunters. Then again when is ice safe? I would hope early Jan.

60's this weekend won't help, but it sure will be nice in the boat.
