jeepguy
Recently went out hunting. I accessed a body of water on foot. It was dark and I was running a bit late on this particular morning.I loaded all my gear on my back and hoofed it out to the spot I was going to hunt. I got there setup my decoys, went to get my gun and the floating case was empty. At first I started laughing because I figured i left it at home. So I packed up and drove a couple miles to my house. NO GUN!!! So I screamed back to the spot and started searching. Of course I did not have my GPS on me this particular morning because I was on foot and not in the boat, and the gun is MAX4 CAMO. I grabbed two rakes and used them to mark my line as I walked back and fourth through CRP grass for and hour and a half. Back and Fourth....Back and fourth...just picturing this gun lost and melting in the annual DNR burn of the land or someone else finding it and keeping it, or seeing it in the local pawn shop. After covering about 1/2 the area I was searching I noticed a little trail in the grass, 20 feet later there was the gun. I must have forgotten to fully secure the end of the floating case and it slipped out and I somehow did not notice. None the less I dodged a $500 whoops, and I will be double checking the gun case every time for now on and making sure I have the GPS on me. Musky Buck
Lucky for you, glad u found it, I once left all my goose calls in an area I don't usually sit for geese and had no clue exactly where I was, went home and grabbed my dog again, brought him in the general area and seconds later he was screaming out of this cover lanyards in his mouth just flying around my hayfield with the calls, he was a year old with energy to burn and he would just buzz by me wide open and I'd reach for them and eventually I used that tone of voice that ended his fun. I'm sure others have set a gun down to retrieve or something and misplaced it for a time, Happy Halloween to all !
kobear
Camo Stanley Thermos near a pond in ND. Searched and searched. The next year I was celebrating a good hunt with the dog... and tripped over it. Still serves me well.
RaininFeathers
I lost my dads head lamp I was borrowing. My bro and I searched the launch everywhere. My bro didn't have a light to search and about half way through the search he reached down to grab something he saw on the ground and his hand sunk into warm dog [PoorWordUsage] that our dog had dropped minutes before. About 5 minutes later I felt my head again and realized it was still on my hat all along. Needless to say he wasn't happy. I still brace myself for a bruisin everytime I tell that story. Gordie
Glad to hear you got your gun back its a pretty sinking feeling when something like that happens I drove off with my dads truck once with the tail gate open and didnt even think about the gun in the back it was in a hard case and it hit the pavement when I got home went to grab it and his prize possesion winchester model 12 was gone I jumped back in the truck and raced to where I was hunting and no gun. I was so scared to tell my dad in thoughts that he'd kill me so I didnt tell him and a couple days go by and I get a phone call form a friend that just so happen to pick it up as he drove by that spot on his way home from trapping. He didnt know who's gun it was and thought that he just got a new gun but then someone told what happened and he returned it. I bought him a dozen easton gamegetter 2117 aluminum arrows for returning it. he saved my life and my dad still doesnt know about it SHHHH dont tell him ;)I was 17years old when this happened if he would of known I probally won't of made it to

kitchy
This reminded me of my trip up to our cabin last weekend in Bigfork. I was at the local watering hole and I overhead a couple of gentlemen from the cities that were up for grouse hunting. They forgot their shotguns and ammo at home. Long way to go and not get any hunting in. I beleive they bought some fishing gear and went fishing. Cheaper than buying a new gun I guess. kc0myy
3 years ago. a friend of mine and I were going early goose hunting. I stopped over at his house and he wanted to go to the store my car is a mess and i move somethings around. and is was dark outside too. when we are driving down the road. I here a big crash and I look in the rearview mirror. and I see sparks, I thought oh [PoorWordUsage] those are all my tools. nope it was my nova sliding down the road at 60 MPH. we turn around and the gun is trashed. so the next day I went over to my friends store to buy a new nova. feeling really stupid I told my friend pete the stoire on what happend to my gun. Pete said don't worry about because be did the same thing with a brand new 11-87 still in the box. but he never did find his gun.
fishinfey8
THis has happened twice now...I was pheasant hunting with my dad and he lost his palm tre out in the field. We took the my dog tucker back out on the path we had walked and she found it. She stopped and smelled the ground where the phone was and when we saw here shnoz hit the ground, we looked right there and whalla! It's absolutely amazing what a dog's nose can do especially when you know how to read the dog's actions!
