Yes they would take up more space on the iPod too. I would suspect they are encoded at a much higher bit rate to be almost double what they would normally be. Most normal songs are 3,4,5,6MB. Thank god I have 700GB of music because to load my iPod from iTunes would cause me to have a 2nd mortgage

I haven't been out there in a month or two, but I believe they are upgrading to a higher bitrate and to the MP3 format. Yes they are larger files, and they are more expensive I believe as well. The sounds quality is much better with these and I think you can upgrade alot of your old files to this new format for some $$.

Memory is becoming really cheap, so it will not be much of an issue with newer players. Older ones.......

Or you can download some freeware to convert your own music to 320Kbs which is probably what these new ones are encoded at. FLAC is even higher bitrate than MP3 or 320Kbs but each song ends up being like 12-15MB.
