Ice fishing machine set up

Hey is that graph mounted up front? I am currently using the h2o handheld but my eyes are gettin bad and I am thinking about upgrading to a larger screen, mostly for the GPS but I guess you could use the graph as well. If that is outside and mounted do you run into issues when it is really cold? My H2O gives me a blank screen when it is really cold.

yep thats an older eagle 502c I converted to a ice unit. I made a box that holds a vex battery and made a bracket for the front of the wheeler and bought a ice ducer for it. as far as the cold I keep it in the truck till I get where im going then turn it on while I unload then strap it on. in GPS mode along with lake map chip you can go right to your spot. then after I get the portable set up I use it as a graf I will split the screen with on side full water colum and the other side in zoom mode to see just the last few feet. Once you get your settings down (sensitivity, color, ect.)it works great.different colors different size fish.

I found a slick deal on Cabellas site. It is a rack that fastens to your rear deck on the ATV and can be folded up when not in use. It hold 3 5 gallon buckets for rods or misc items, even your flasher. It does not impede the back rack at all so you can still set the milk crates up for supplies as well. It also does not get in the way while towing the sled or house. I'd buy another one. You'll find it under ATV accessories.

Didn't mean to hijak your question.

Here is what I think 4 years into 4wheeler for ice fishin.

Get a windshield, $60 at the dealership.

Get some sort of GPS mounted on the handlebar where you know where you are without drilling holes.

Get an auger rack, I'd put it in the front.

You will find that you do not want a lot of stuff in the front as it blocks your headlight. I went with just a big bag on the back my first year and it worked alright but I don't like it long term. I would get all of your stuff together and figure out where you are going to put it or to determine how much storage you are going to need.

You need to figure someting out for minnows, I have been using a cooler but when it is rough out there it tends to flip.

If you have a portable sled get the solid tow bar, if not you will go down a hill and the rope will wrap around your tire and rip your break line.

Next is don't fish within 500yds of anyone else cuz you don't have to anymore.

You don't have to, but it is perfectly legal to do so. If I feel the need to fish within 100' of someone, I will talk to them first before even unhooking my auger to see if they mind. I have not yet had one person have a problem with it, and have made a few friends and learned a few things in the process.

hopefully pic works

I got sick of dragging my portable so i made a rack to carry it

I also can weld aluminum so i made baskets for auger pails vex and buddy heater

I can fly on lake 40 plus miles an hour. Better for equipment as it is not banging or bouncing on the ice..

Thanks a lot for the pics and input. I am looking at a windshield right now. The local dealership tried to get me to buy a windshield that just clamps on. Seems like a nice idea, but I will never be taking it off and the plastic seemed a little weak.

PEERCHKING - How do you like your windshield? How does it hold up when it is on the trailer at highway speeds??

You'll want to take the windshield off going down the highway. They make a quick release windshield, it is about 2mins to take it off, there are 4 brackets that stay on the handlebars.

I could not find one where the plastic was real solid.

Windshield is a must if you plan to brave the nasty stuff!!

I use the cooler on the front for minnows usually. This pic has my H bird 797 on the bars ,but my HDS 5 will be replacing it this yr. My bucket holders were "made" by cutting one of the cabelas 3 bucket holders down and making 2 one buckets holders out of them. Hand/thumb warmers are nice for those long rides at low temps.

I don't have any photos of mine but here's how it's set up .....

Auger mounts on the front rack. That leaves enough room to bungee down a small gas can and if needed, a bucket.

I have an H2O on a RAM mount on the handlebars, and a high power spotlight. I only have 1 power port on my wheeler so I use a 1-to-2 expansion plug in it.

On my back rack I have a big soft pack. I keep 1 or 2 marcums in there, a lantern (before I went to L.E.D lights), extra tackle, extra clothes, flashlight, etc. etc. etc.

If I'm pulling my house I leave my rods in the house. If I'm going without the house I use the shoulder strap to sling my rod bags to me, or I put them on top of the big soft pack and bungee them down. Works great.

I put a small minnow bucket inside a 5 gallon bucket with a gamma seal lid. If pulling my house I leave the bucket in the house, but if going without the house I usually put the bucket on my floorboard --- which doesn't leave much room for my foot especially with a big snow boot on. A rack mounted bucket holder or cooler holder would be a much better way to go.

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
