Hey Lou!

Recommended Posts

Lou- Berens Lk posted this awhile ago and you must have missed it. "Lou- I see guys walk into registration stations with 2 or more tags and register deer for their wife, daughter, buddy... but I don't see the game wardens around (should I call TIP or doesn't wildlife care if it happens?). Don't we want the CO's working around the registration stations?"

I hunt a lottery area and have the same questions. Should I call tip when I see someone register 2 or 3 deer with someone elses tag? Do the CO's ever work the stations (if not why and does wildlife call the CO whe they see a violation)?

Certainly if you see a violation of any kind, you should call the TIP line. As for where CO's work, I'm not comfortable commenting on that. Sorry.

Lou, The regs plainly point out that the hunter needs to bring the deer to the registration station. Yet very few do it, and no one ever looks at the deer anymore (early 90's every deer was looked at to know if it was a buck or doe). I have heard on a number of occasions of people registering bucks with bonus tags. Could the state "sweeten to pot" so to speak to get the stations to change and truely register the animals, instead of just running info through the computer. I think it would help our DNR biologist, to get more accurate info.

Thanks for you time on here, I value your service.

I remember the mid 90's, when I started deer hunting, when the person shooting the deer had to register it. Of course I have also hunted in Iowa and I am again this year, but there you just have to call the tag in to a state wide clearing house. They started that 3 years ago........

They used to look at every deer. I remember about 5-10 years ago, there was big to do about not paying them to do that anymore, or only paying them like a quarter a deer. So the registration stations quit taking the job as seriously. I don't know if Lou can comment on that or not, or if it is even true, but I definitely know that there was an issue with this at one time, and ever since, registration has basically meant taking your tags and license to the registration station, having them run your license and getting the possession tag. I'm not saying its right or wrong. Like I said before, legal people will always follow the rules. I would love to be able to register the deer online.
