Axle Spindles

Alright guys, I'm frustrated. I've built a few fish house frames, and have done a lot of searching, but I'm yet to find a axle spindle that's long enough to pass through the pivot arm. In the past, I've taken a chunk of round bar and welded it to the spindle to make it long enough.

Does anyone sell a 6000 lb spindle set with brake flange that doesn't need an extension welded to it? I tried Kramer Spring in Mendota Heights, and every site I could find on the web with no luck. Someone has to make one. I doubt very hightly that the trailer companys are doing what I am. lol

did you try Pioneer wheel and hub or Shoups is a mail order house?? Another thing you could have a machine shop turn one out for you, we had a shop turn one for a piece of equipment we have cause it had odd bearings. It can be made out of stress prove shaft.

I've thought about having a shop special make a pair for me, but figured they'd charge more than $50 a piece. There are other options out there to achieve what I'm after, that's for sure. I just figured someone must make the little buggers. smile

I don't believe that you could weld the stress proof to the arm though?

hovermn, 6000# (3000#) per spindle is ALOT of weight to put on a spindle that's not OEM! Yes, by welding it you'll lose the temper and it WILL be prone to bend. Best I could offer is; Check with Northern Tool, what they might have, you'ld have to weld gussets to, to support the spindle and prevent bending. I might add that Northern does carry a line of spindles for "Agri Use". Maybe check there. Phred52

The problem with my post is that I've already purchased (and special ordered) everything I need to build the wheel system. Yup, asked after the fact. Oops! It ended up all coming from Northern (love that place!) The spindles are not tempered. Besides, all a staight axle consists of is a tube with 2 spindles welded inside....

The house is an 8X19 and will weigh around 3200 lbs when done. I figure after loading it up with gear and supplies, the "down the road" weight will be closer to 3700-4000 lbs max. The 6000 lb axles will never see that much load wink

Going back to topic, I was really just curious if anyone actually sold what I need without having to modify. Just buy and weld on. Sounds like I'll be giving Custom Cottage a call to see what they have...maybe for the next one grin

I'd like to thank everyone that chimed in with ideas and suggestions! I'm just surprised that there weren't more suppliers mentioned...

    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
    • I haven’t done any leaf springs for a long time and I can’t completely see the connections in your pics BUT I I’d be rounding up: PB Blaster, torch, 3 lb hammer, chisel, cut off tool, breaker bar, Jack stands or blocks.   This kind of stuff usually isn’t the easiest.   I would think you would be able to get at what you need by keeping the house up with Jack stands and getting the pressure off that suspension, then attack the hardware.  But again, I don’t feel like I can see everything going on there.
