Disposing of Bait

Insane with the seine. I like it. That can be your new motto. Congrats on finding new territory. Nice shiners, they'll work for cutbait.

Did you get a thorough tick inspection when you got home? Nothing worse than crawling into bed and having one of those buggers crawl up your leg. Blech!

Are Shad highly abundant in the Minnesota? I have seen large packaged Shad in bags at bait shops and have always wondered how they would work cut up during the day if I was just trying to kill time looking for Channels.

They are present in large numbers from about Chaska downstream, above there you see a few here and there.

I haven't heard good things about the pre packed shad such as the ones at Fleet Farm.

However if they are frozen fresh, they are one of the best if not the best bait for channels during certain time periods.

I don't think it's the bait that is the biggest problem. I think it's more the water that gets transfered from location to location that really spreads the the non native species. It must not be that bad of a problem or I think it would be more black and white don't do it.

I usually just try to find someone nearby and offer my extras away. Bullheads last forever and it's hard to know how many you will need in one night. Tonight I only used 2 of them because they last so long but it's hard to know how many times you'll snag up and lose your bait during the night.
