Pikester
First off, appreciate all the wonderful photos in this forum.I would like to graduate from point and shoot cameras. Can someone recommend a nice started camera for me? Looking to keep it under $1k. I would like to take nice photos of the outdoors and family. Any input would be greatly appreciated. If you have something for sale, please message me.Pikester
Ufatz
It is highly unlikely, in todays world and market, that you will need to spend that much for what you want to do. I will let others tell you their reccomendations for particular camera/lens combos, but unless you are going to get VERY serious about it, you can get by for less than that. eyeguy 54
Nikon and Canon both have good starter packages. A refurbished D5100 from Nikon can be found for around 500 with an 18-55 lens on e b a y. And a 55-300 zoom can be found for 250-300 bucks. Just a sample. I am sure Canon has some good stuff also. I have no problem getting refurbished stuff but I did buy new when I got my 18-300 lens. Couldn't find a refurbished one or I probably would have. If you find a couple models that you like just type in model vs model (D3100 vs D5100) for instance on g o o gle and it will take you to a site that analizes them. this helped me a lot. A friend bought a Tamron 18-250 and is not happy with it so I guess I would say watch out for that one. Good Luck!
Dbl
Do a search for starter camera right here on HSO. A number of good topics discussing various options.
Canon Guy
I would also look into the mirrorless cameras. The image quality is outstanding.
