Satellite Internet while camping

6 posts in this topic

Any body use a satellite Internet service while camping? I know I see a lot of the Directv setups on RVs but I'm not sure if the satellite Internet setups are as easy to take on the road and realign each time.

I do know if I could logon once or twice a day I could easily extend my camping trips into the multiple weeks. Where we go there isn't cell service for nearly an hour in each direction.

We would use it for tent camping but I'd have no problem scaling a tree-with-a-Southern-view and strapping a dish on if it was easy to align.

NOPE not going to happen!

You don't use a regular Dish or equipment for Satellite Internet.

It's a whole different set-up and just the cost of the equipment will be enough for you to realize it's not going to happen. Not to mention it would nearly impossible to get set up while camping.

You'd be much better off driving an hour to the nearest WI-Fi spot than wasting your time and money trying get Satellite INTERNET while camping.

Trust me on this one.. grin

Pierbridge is right. Satellite internet is completely different from receiving a dish tv signal. There's two way transmissions involved. When setting it up, the technician must be talking to tech support to insure the connection is there. This is why it must be done by a professional who is authorized to work with the signal provider.

Easiest way to get internet while camping with a notebook is getting a nationwide internet cell service plan and plugin card. No need for a dish with it and depending upon cell service in the area you camping.

When I was in iraq, a guy set up an internet server with a dish on our small base so he could play world of warcraft all day. haha.

Anyways, I believe it ended up costing him 4-5k to buy all the parts and get it going. In addition, there was a monthly charge for the service, I don't remember what that cost was though.

I have been reading through these old posts. I had to bump this one to the front just to show how much things have changed in 5 years. I remember my wife and I would talk about how cool it would be if we had internet while driving in the car. Just think we could look for cafes, hotels, etc while we were driving. We couldn't imagine how great that would be. Now we are there.

    • interesting? oh its raining here too!!!!!!!!!!!
    • That's what this Cooper's Hawk was doing, right in the middle of the street. Has a nest in the top of the neighbors birch tree. Watched them all Spring with their young. Was pouring buckets here and this guy sat in the middle of the street for ten minutes flapping and spinning around. Think he was having a good time! First and third shots are while he was fanning wings. Camera didn't want to subject auto-focus  on full zoom with the amount of rain coming down, but figgered I wanted to get the pics. Hawk was half a block away
    • Ever been to Stevens Point or Wisconsin Rapids?
    •   Maybe an "Inter-continental" belt is on the line here.....
    •   Probably no worse then the paper sludge biwaste that was coming out of that plant a few years ago!
    • Well it looks like we got out of expansion is pretty darn good shape. Haula + Tuch and we got a 3rd coming back to us, not bad at all. Tuch is no throw away prospect and could become a heck of a player some day but I feel like we still were able to keep our better prospects and center prospects which is big for us. Sounds like we still might move a D man to clear some cap space so maybe more fireworks to come.
    • Thanks guys, appreciate the info!
    • Only so many heartbeats, lol.  Probably some study on hummingbirds or something and now the same rules apply to us and our consistent environment filled with healthy choices that are necessities for survival, just like a hummingbirds....  This was probably published by a group of medical providers that want to make you think it doesnt matter if you're lazy, fat, and dependent on "conditioned answers" to life's health and wellness questions and you will seek their "advice" when becoming ill.
    • i've never done the plastic thing. but i've taken Reb's advice on planting grass, in particular filling in spots and its turned out great. so this is going to really hurt to say this, but Reb really knows what he's talking about when it comes to his lawn. i've also seen pictures.
    •   Right next to the river, no less.  Isn't anyone from the EPA concerned about this?
