fish with teeth
was driving to the lake one day and i was going about 70 and speedometer said i was doing 30. it would be off 1 min then go back to normal the next. now it is just pinned at 100 and something. then the oil pressure gauge stopped working and now the tachometer. so my question is what do you think it would be? thanks for any info or help. Tyler23
my dad has the same truck you have and hes having the same problems but only with the speedo. i guess they had a problem that year with those gauge clusters. we were told you have to get a whole new one. but ours is only on the speedo and he has a navigation system in it that tells him his speed so he just left it. Macgyver55
Yes the problem is most likely the cluster is bad. There is a place in Minneapolis that will repair it (carry in) with all new gauges and labor for around 200 bucks.
Shack
Used to be Speedometer Radio Service Inc. in St. Paul, but they have gone out of business now (Wow ). All the dealers would send their clusters and radios to them. Now they send them back to the factory for repairs or replace. I think the shop Macgyver is talking about is D&D Instruments in Mpls. It is over in the crotch of 35W and 280. I actually called down and they are still doing over the counter/public service. They have a special rate for this particular dash cluster repair. Their repair fixes the issue permanently by installing upgraded stepper motors in all gauges (not just speedo), same day service (you get your cluster back them same day as dropped off) and a 1 year warr. for the same price as Macgyver said above. I have never used them, but know others who have and have had a great experince with them. If you go, tell them you heard about them from the FishingMinnesota Auto forum Good luck! Jeremy airjer W
I thought D&D was in roseville of from county road D?
Shack
Yes they where, but they moved down to Winter St. about 5-6 years ago (I think) and are now considered Minneapolis.

Jethro80
I had the same problem with a 05 1/2 ton, it should be a recalled problem. I sent my cluster in to a shop in minneapolis and a few months later I received a letter grom GM informing myself that it has been recalled. I sent them my receipt and they reimbursed me
jwhjr
If it falls into the recalled issue VIN range, the fix from GM is good up to 70K miles. The best way to find out for sure if your truck falls under the recall is to call a dealer service dept. and give them your VIN. They can let you know if it qualifies assuming its under 70K miles that is.
Scott K
They have been known to go beyond the 70k mark as well.
Bjjams
I'd try a dealer first to see what they say. My 04 1/2 ton had about 85,000 when they replaced it free, under warranty, last year. It was about 3 months before the service bulletin came out.
HawgMan
Kind of off topic, but I got a '03 Silverado w/ 58k on it & the oil pressure gauge light went out. All the rest are working fine, not a big deal deal, but rather annoying. Kinda like to keep an eye on the most important gauge in the cluster day or night. Had it out & it's not like the days before when you could twist in a new mini bulb. What's the fix for a problem as such?Thanx!
sparkyaber
For the OP, it it probably the stepper/stepup dealybobber (motor). Has been a common problem on those trucks. If you can pull it out yourself, you can send it away/take it somewhere and have it fixed fairly reasonable as the above posters have alluded to. Pretty crappy of GM to have these problems on many, many trucks and not take care of it customers. Kinda like the injectors on the diesels,(finally taken care of), transfer case leaks, Alley transmission leaks.......etc, etc. Oh, have I mentioned I have had all of the above problems with my 3/4 ton truck???? I saved $150 by removing the dash and sending it in. You can drive the truck with no dash so if your looking to save a few buck, go for it.It is the motor that controls the needle and that is the cause of the problem.I will look for my receipt to find out exactly where I had it repaired and will post the info later
Macgyver55
I believe most of the cluster lights are easily replaceable.
WingDing2
I have experience with this problemIf your odometer reads under 70K GM will replace the GPCNONE of the dash light are servicable, well you cant buy the bulbs[Note from admin: Please read forum policy before posting again. Thank you.]
Macgyver55
Our 2006 Workhorse chassis vehicles (basically all GM parts) do have seviceable lights, but they are socket assemblies not regular bulbs. The pickups and Tahoes may be different, as I've not had to do any yet.
HawgMan
Thanks for the info! I'll give our local GM dealer a call & check it out.
