I've caught suckers as late as September. I would think that if you can find them, you can catch them.

And sucker is my second favorite cutbait for channel cats, right behind shad. They also work quite well for bowfin, as Jake said.

once they die, freeze them, the work well for opening weekend northerns. float them weightless down current. after ice out pike are out looking for fish that died over the winter for an easy meal

Jake, I have fished the spot you where at. We have done very well there on Walleyes after a big rain. Try a 3" white twister tail with a black 1/8 oz. jig head in the middle section.

There is also another nice spot at the "park" right out from the tire swing, It drop's off to six feet about two feet from shore and then comes back up to two feet.

Thanks! i was just bottom fishing with a crawler when i saw three little buffalo swim by. i tossed out my worm and to my surprise,he took it. i did bring my flyrod but they didn't pay any attention to my flies. it's kind of funny, that was the smallest buffalo i have ever seen in that river. that same day i was casting towards multiple buff's that were well over 15 pounds, but this little turd is all i have to show frown

Interesting Carpman, Carp on the fly have become one of my favorite pursuits this last summer, but I have never considered doing it at night. It seems I have to get the fly within a foot or two of the front of their face in order to even have a chance since they seem to be sight fishing the fly. Maybe on a well moonlit night, hmmm. What were the conditions you were fishing? I imagine the water temps are pretty high right now which probably doesn't hurt either. I just have a hard time imagining it beacuse right now I often wade in a backwater of the mississippi and sight fish them under a high sun.

Lately I've been getting them to hit on San Juan worms.

(Maybe we could open a new thread instead of in the pics thread)

fly fishing for carp at night is the ultimate challenge to catch carp. you have to be very alert and be watching everything around you. to really up your chances, use large dark flies. if the carp are aggressive, you can go bright. a black wolly bugger wrapped with webby hackle is my go-to fly. what you want to find are backwater areas, with pencil reeds and cattails all over. listen closely for carp feeding it them. cast very close to where you hear them feeding, then fish VERY slow. keep casting until the fish moves on, (or you catch it. )

also, fishing in urban areas is a great idea. you will be suprised how many fish can be attracted to a street light.
