Alzheimer's - tracking a wanderer

Tom7227

Question

Anyone know of a device that would allow someone to use a Mapquest type program to track down a wanderer? A relative made it from Mahtomedi to Edina in a car a few weeks ago and it threw quite a scare into the family. His wheels are gone but now he takes off on long walks.

google project lifesaver. not a gps type deal, but similar. you are able to track then easily. the subject wears a watch type bracelet that can't be removed, that sends out a signal and with equipment, it's easily tracked. many police, sheriff, and fire departments are getting the equipment and capablilites.

I'm not exactly sure how it works but some of the new verizon cell phones have a parent/child chaperone that allows parents to know where the kids are w/ turn by turn capability via cell phone. It may be worth investing in a phone for him for this, and he can call if he gets lost or you can call him to make sure he's ok. My grandpa did the same thing w/ a car in early stages, scaary stuff. Good luck,

There is a HSOforum that has equipment for "teen tracking". Items that can be installed on an vehicle to track the persons driving habits etc. They also carry LOTS of other typs of tracking equipment including GPS. If you remember what the '3rd little pig' used to build his house, google that along with 'house' and add 'security', that should get you there. Phred52

this little piggy went to market,

..........................stayed home,

..........................had roast beef,

roastbeefhousesecurity and you know what???

Naw, just kidding.

I went there - 3 bills for the unit and 30 a month for the service. Cell phone seems like a better option if we can get a 83 year old to carry a cell phone in his pocket.

Any more ideas? You'd think there would be a great market for this stuff.

That rig is to help the cops find someone. I'm not trying to stop the guy from taking a walk and not all that interested in getting the cops involved if he does. I'm looking for something that will let us know where he is by looking on a computer. Don't they have something like that for parents that want to keep track of the kids?
