Weekend Report

Recommended Posts

It was put on by Barb Carey, she offically open her own guide service last summer. She has posted on here a few times.

There was about 25 of us.

We should plan a womens GTG up there sometime and invite some of the WI women.

They are also just waiting for an invite to fish Mille Lacs with us -- whistle

Well I did the overnighter last night but it wasn't in tropical weather like Lisa and Jim had.

I spent the night in my Frabill Fortress out on "Big Lake Winnipeg." I only moved once yesterday afternoon. Mainly because the winds were 20 to 30 mph and wind chills were almost 30 below zero F.

The other reason that I didn't move much is because walleyes were under my house all afternoon and evening yesterday.

Landed about 12 walleyes between 15 and 22 inches; all in 9 fow under the ice. Kept a couple of 17s and released the rest.

I reeled in the lines last night at about 8:30 pm and Dezi the Dog and I snuggled up on my cot. The BiG Buddy Heater did its job by keeping us toasty.

The more or less full moon was really pretty along with residential lights flickering along the east and west shores of Lake Winnipeg.

Lines were back in the holes at 6:30 this morning. First mark on the Vex at 6:45 but no takers until 7:20. Caught another 7 or 8 walleyes this morning. Kept 2 more eaters and released the rest. Packed up and left at 10 am.

I'll be doing that again sometime but hopefully the weather will be more agreeable.

Still sounded like one heckuva good time gatorhunter! I'm in awe of the shear numbers you caught. Seemed like there wasn't a dull moment!

It was really neat to be in the middle of a lake with only the moon out and a couple houses lit way in the background. I loved that part too. I felt like it was something pretty special.

I tried to get out on the ice and plow the shoreline by my place yesterday, got stuck again. Heavy wet snow, but I winched her out. So I was going to go out fishing today from a neighbors access, and I got 15 feet out on the ice and could go no further. I actually got scared and it was like I couldn't breath, kinda like a panic attack. This is what it looked like, I have walked out on the ice before when there has been water on it but couldn't do it today.

I was out on a little lake just north of Chisholm and the ice was fine, just 2 to 3 inches of water on the top of the ice. The access was still pretty good as it is shaded most of the day, so I am hoping it will hold up for a couple more trips.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
