Ryan_V
Can i put a deep cycle batery in my 89 f-250 plow truck? I have an extra battery and mine in the old truck seems to not hold/take a charge. Just wondering if I will harm anything by putting a deep cycle in the truck.
youngie22
not an electrician, but I would think if its a 12 volt system and a 12v battery; then it would just depend on the cranking amps of the battery. don't qoute me as a pro, hopefully some one else will chime in w/ more knowledge. bassphish2005
the only bad part is how high the amps are going in when the truck is running/charging,most deep cycle batteries say to be recharged at 6 amps or less. Most truck alternators put out 12-16 amps......I don't think the deep cycle will last being hit all the time with that kinda amperage? youngie22
so your saying it would be harder on the battery than the vehicle right? not draw backs or negative the other way?
Jeremy airjer W
A deep cycle is designed to give a relatively low current for an extended period. A vehicle battery is designed to give a lot of current for a short period of time. Your alternator will put out much more than 16 amps. More like 40 to 100 amps. This and the short burst of high amperage to start the vehicle and the heat it will be subjected to will probably shorten its like considerably!Keep the marine batteries in the boat/rv and get yourself an automotive battery. bassphish2005
you r correct?,I was thinking what the amp gauge is reading on the truck, still way too much for a deep cycle battery to handle!
IFallsRon
I'd guess that your problem was with the alternator.
dabaer
ive done it, only for a little while though, so i could get to the store and pick up a new battery.

youngie22
I was wondering about if I were in a pinch at a boat landing. can I hurt the electrical system, altenator, etc? Or just the battery?
Scott K
If in a pich do it. It can do some damage to the alt, and the battery, but for a short time, I wouldnt worry about it.
