Slip-bob
Gregg they have a good video on their site that sold me on it. They put a pressure scale on the anchor rope and showed the difference in pressure with using it. Note from admin, please read forum policy before posting again. Thank you I will let you know how it works once I get a chance to use it.
eyebjim
Looks like it should work well. I have had no anchor issues since I got a waterspike and 4 foot of chain. The cain kinda does the same thing as the shock cord. It falls when in the trough and rises when on crest so that the anchor does not get the full brunt. I have held solid in 3-4 footers. Some great jiggin can be had in rough stuff if you can stay.
Slip-bob
Eyebjim,Do you have any issues with the chain damaging the side of your boat when retieving your anchor in the rough stuff? I just bought my first fiberglass boat am worried about chiiping it. Hopefully I won't need the chain because of the drop-n-stay.
eyebjim
NO. I bought a ruberized chain. No worries. I would probably use the chain even if I had the shock cord, which I may pick up. I like to be able to anchor in any condition. I have had some if the best fishing on mille lacs in huge waves leading a front just bobbing up and down with the jig rod in the rod holder. Let the boat jig it for you.
machohorn
I also have a 5 foot chain on a 30# ancor, works great even in rough water just take your time when it gets close to the top.
eyebjim
Good point. when in the rough stuff the anchor will want to swing into the boat. Take your time and reach over to grab to top of the anchor to keep it from hitting the boat. But don't fall in.
gregg52
i think i might hafta get that or something similiar thats a good idea i guess i'm thinkin it saves wear and tear on takes the pressure off the cleats on ur boat alittle concerned if it takes to much pressure off the spikes they might not hold as tight i guess alittle trail and error but i like the idea i couldnt watch the whole thing when i watch those they play for like 3 sec then stop then start again must be something with my computer must need something as far as those chains go 20yrs bobber fishing rocks mille lacs winnie gull etc etc i have never broke a rope to me it just extra weight being pulled and just something else bulky and takin up space in storage thats not needed if you think bout it that 3-4ft of chain probably never touches bttm once your anchored any way in that rough of water it going to be angled up at the boat up off the bottom even if you anchor on the back side sorta speak of a rock pile that part is very seldom going to be hittin bottom the whole idea behind the water spike is light and convient like i said it folds up or can be taken apart by pullin a pin plus its fairly light i'm 56 now i dont want to pull up 30lb anchor and another at least 10lbs in chain jeeeeeepers just think all the fuel you are burning carry all that extra weight lol not to mention worryin bout fallin inand bangin up the side of the boat (specialyy if you have one of those pretty metal flake paint jobs) i do buy good 3/4 inch rope but thats just my opinion
Esox_Magnum
Instead of a chain I use a product similar to the dropnstay. Been using them for 10+ years now and wont anchor without them. Mine attaches to the anchor then to the rope, streaches about 4'.
PerchJerker
I've been very happy with a rubber coated chain, no issues on my fiberglass boat and works GREAT compared to just a rope. I've never used one of the shock-absorbing systems but have heard great things about them too.
