Up viewing with an underwater camera

The other day I was out catching pan fish in the early afternoon. I was using my camera to watch their reaction to my presentation and I noticed there were a ton of fish in the area. So I tried moving the weight on the camera back so it would point up. This was one of the coolest things I have ever seen with my camera. We were in only 20 feet of water so you could get the camera to the bottom and see all the fish in the different levels they were hanging at. The light through the ice made them stick out so great. I had never seen so many fish all at once on my screen. I think I will start using this method more when scouting out spots. Just thought I would share because I have not seen anyone talk about up viewing before.

I got to see my first bass on camera earlier that day too. To bad I didn't have a nice minnow down there to watch him attack.

That's a great idea! The only problem I see with this setup is that it would be hard to tell if you're close to the bottom without actually dropping it down and kicking up silt. I'll have to try this next time I'm out in some clearer water!

One thing I thought was neat about it was how clear the detail is when you get that much light. It seems like when the light is behind you get a good picture depending on how much light is coming down but it always seems a little washed out. When I was dropping the camera and looking around it was a little black in the very underside of the fish but most of the fish had great detail to them from their fins to the patterns on them. Unfortunately it was getting closer to when I needed to get home so I didn't have time to get it lined up with a line down so I was unable to watch them bite that way. I would think it would be pretty cool to see the fish take it and watch it get reeled in.
