superhawk16
croix as far as I know the Navionics north chip covers SD, ND, MN, WI, and Michigan (I think). If you go on their HSOforum they should have a list of all the lakes so you can see if it has the lakes you want (it probably does, it has 12,000 lakes on the north chip). Maybe somebody else would know but I am pretty sure that it only covers a small portion of LOTW because there is a separate chip that you can buy for LOTW...hope this helpsps. I would try to pick up an 08 North chip while they are around for $100 because the 09's just came out for $150 and there really doesn't seem to be to many upgrades. veha44
08 Navionics chip covers all of Lake of the Woods, but it is the Canadian Hydrographic mapping only, which is still the best available for Canada only waters, but both Navionics and Lakemaster have seperate chips showing the MN side down to 1ft (Navionics gives you canadian waters in the hydrographic mapping outside of 1ft). I heard the 09 Navionics is supposed to have LOW to 1ft on the MN side added, but haven't seen the new chip yet, so don't know if that is rumor or true. dudeness
With the Lowrance 522c I see it is usually listed as a rear mount transducer. Could you get enough cable to mount the transducer on the transom and then mount the screen up in the front? or would you have to purchase a longer cable or something? veha44
The cable you get with the unit is 20ft long, so you can usually set the depth finder up anywhere you want and is designed to go on the back of the transom. (hst-wsbl) otherwise there is two different extensions 12ft and 20ft that you could buy. http://www.lei-extras.com/store/search.asp?SearchType=Unit&Unit=LMS%2D522C+iGPS The other option would be to buy the shoot thru, either epoxy it in the back (if you have a glass boat) or you could rig it on your trolling motor or buy the plug in if your trolling motor has built in transducer. cupper
Went to Gander Mt. this weekend and they told me that Lowrance is discontinuing the 522 models in favor of their new HDS line. Anyone know of any Gander that still has them in stock? I have a bunch of giftcards from christmas that I'd like to use.
JRedig
My only comment to anyone looking to get into the 52_ series, the screens are really small for navigating. I really wish i'd gotten the larger viewing window.
10,000 Casts
Bigger is always better for split screening but most of the time I use my overlay data for depth on the map screen just to stay on track. For me, a 5" screen is plenty.
