S.D. Ice Angular
Does anyone use a computer program for hand loading info?I used to have a RCBS program but it was not the most user friendly and I ended up not wasting my time with it.I am curious as to what people use for “Record Keeping” and how elaborate are you??Group Size, Velocity, etc.I am also posting this in the shooting forum. Blair Nelson
Quick Load is a fantastic resource for load development.Record keeping can be done on Excel or Old School spiral notebooks.
HunterLee
The little papers that come with your reload boxes. They have spots for caliber, bullet, grain, powder, times loaded and everything else. That is for a proven load. I put mine on my cabinat that holds all my reloading stuff. paul pachowicz
SD Ice, I still us the old method of transcribing patterns to a note pad, date, load etc but, now I also take a pic with a digital camera and print it off with the data. From Which side of the river are you?
paul pachowicz
oh yea, I forgot to mention I've got a CHRONY print out that I file with the load data.
picksbigwagon
I use three ring binders, check out the last few pictures of my posting here in the shooting forumhttp://www.fishingminnesota.com/forum/ub...rid#Post1578461Once I get a chrony, I will make a new column for that data too. My buddy has one, I am not too overly concerned with speed right now, my main goal is 1 hole 5 shots
S.D. Ice Angular
picksbigwagon, That is a nice set up, well done, you did a really nice post that you linked to also. I think the best advice is READ and/or have the most manuals that you can. After doing some research on this now again I have determined that there really is not a perfect program out there like I had hoped. This does not surprise me I guess. I did find my RCBS program in the mean time also. It still is as cumbersome and difficult to use as I remember. Darn thought it might have gotten better with age. (Not Really!!) I noticed that the RCBS is now selling for $99.00 Wow that is way over priced for what it is. I don’t even remember what I paid for it.I will continue the search... picksbigwagon
have you done an internet search? I am sure you have.......My buddy (with the chronograph and non reloader, but shoots mine) had a spread sheet he got somewhere that keeps track of a lot of the technical data from the use of a chronograph and the differences between loads, etc. Way too technical for me at this point, but he is a chemistry teacher so that is the way his mind works. He is kind of a speed freak too when it comes to his loads that he wants done. Of course it took a while for him to realize that screaming 243 rounds that can't hit a grapefruit at 100 yards aren't the best thing out of his Remington model 7.If I find it I will let ya know. I have it tucked away somewhere either at home or at work on my computer. It is a spread sheet program.Must be at work, it is not here at home
paul pachowicz
Picks, something is waaaaaay wrong if he can't hit a grapefruit at 100 yards with a model 7. Here's my recipe for a model 7, .243 with MOA at 100.Sierra 100 gr SPBT RP brassCCI 200 primers42.5 H48312853 FPSFPS isn't always the your best pattern producer 'specially out of a 18 1/2 inch barrel. picksbigwagon
I will try the H4831 powder, but I might have been exagerating a little bit too. We have been using Varget and 4064 so far and with both powders, the magic fps for his model 7 has been 2500 fps......I will have him buy some new bullets for it as well......S.D. I found the chrony program from my buddy and I emailed it to ya....Not sure if it is what you are looking for so delete it if you need to
sigosaur
Wasn't sure if anyone was still looking for reloading software?I'm also not sure exactly what anyone wants. But I happen to reload, and I'm pretty good with computers, and I've worked up a couple things.Basically, if you use GMail, and you reload, you'll probably like one of these ... and if ya don't, you probably won't.One's a Google-Gadget that runs on iGoogle (or possibly your GMail page). It's like a spreadsheet ... it has rows and columns. The beauty of this is, you can edit it from any web-browser without any special software ... AND, as you do, it's automatically backed-up on Google's servers. To add it to your iGoogle, just click add-by-url and enter http://www.urona.com/loadpet.xml ... it's limited in how many loads it can hold ... so ya run out of room, just let me know and I'll make a new copy of it to hold more. The other's a spreadsheet that ya can also use in a web-browser without any special software ... and it's also backed up, as you edit it, on Google's servers. If you're not an experienced spreadsheet guy, this could be a bit much ... it allows you to define various bullets, powder, and primers on their own sheets with costs ... then on another sheet you reference each of those, and the cost per load is automatically calculated. Here's a link to view a read-only sample version ... http://spreadsheets.google.com/pub?key=pPAjxw7z7DXdk6mzPKE18Dw ... if you'd like a read-write copy for yourself, you need a Google account (which is free), and then email me and then I add your email as someone who can view it using Google-Spreadsheets, and then you simply save a copy of it for yourself.Otherwise, for ballistics, I use the free on-line thing on Hornady's HSOforum. I used that to calculate the trajectory of my .45-90 loads to see where I needed to hit at 100yd to hit 300yd for a match in a couple days and I could only practice at 100yd ... this was my first-ever such match ... I won the 300yd event ... good software!
