Introductions: New to FM, but not to catfishing...

This is my 2nd post on FM and wanted to introduce myself.

I have been fishing catfish for 8 years now and love it. I typically fish the Crow, Minnesota, and the Mississippi river. Majority of my fishing is limited to the shore, but I enjoy the quiet evenings in a lawn chair.

I caught my first catfish in northern Minnesota in the Whiteface river near Cotton, MN which was a nice 5 lbs. I grilled that fish in tinfoil with some onions and some Lawry's and that fish tasted fantastic! I can't say I've had the same experience with fish caught locally. To me they tasted real fishy and that's after soaking the meat in milk and also vodka overnight. The biggest catfish I have caught so far is a 12 lbs from the Mississippi.

Anyway even though it is winter I would like to connect with some fellow FMer's for this upcoming sping/summer/fall to do some big time catfishing! I would like to go after the bigger ones that you need 2 hands to hold up!

Give me a shout!

Welcome HaveRod!

There are some nice cats up that way. I used to canoe the Whiteface when I was younger.

There is a lot of good info here. Take some time to read through some of the back posts and make sure to join in on the fun here and post your thoughts and share your stories.

Welcome to the forum. It's definitely slow fishin in the winter, so you have plenty of time to read up on fishin the MN or the 'sippi rivers for those huge flatties.

As for tasting fishy around here, I don't know how you can get around the fact that these fish live in murky muddy water, compared to what you were used to up north. Try canadian walleye next to metro walleye sometime, you'll get the same thing.

Thanks for all the warm welcomes! I have to admit I am a bit jealous after seeing some of the pictures of fish in your avatars.

I plan to do alot of reading here and hope to "hook" up with some of you in the season ahead to enjoy a night of catfishing on the river!

Thanks again!

Well its 14 below out back right now. Kinda hard to imagine the magic sound of "shploosh" as a full pound of bait and gear hits the water grin

I'm sure the late winter catfishing pre-game will begin full swing here in the next few weeks....its only 4 months or so away.

Welcome!
