From Eddy's "Once Upon A Time in Retail Land" File.

I had "a guy" pop into Gander to show me his New shack with a damaged tarp due to mysterious "critter damage".

First look...I thought..."What da-Hay?"....it looked like it went through a freak'n wood chipper..I though..OK..whatever critter is in this guys shop I don't want to meet up with without a 30 cal......and he was wondering if I could "Warranty it for him"....I said....."Ah..umm...Let me think........NOPE".

Upon further crafty cross examination on my part... he spilled.....It appears he left some deer sausage, chips, bread, ect... in it and dropped it off in his garage.

Well.....his dog..AKA.."Da Mysterious Critter"..."Happy the Pit Bull"...thought his Clam smelled kinda good...and tore into it to locate the tasty prize inside.

I didn't think "Bounce" would help this guy out too much....do you?

But I was very tempted to suggest it may.

wink

There's no warranty against stupidity.

Actually there is at Northern! I was a sales guy there a while back and we had a customer buy a gas powered pressure washer. As usual he was told several times that the engine and pump was not shipped with oil and shown the yellow warning tags that said add oil before using. Guess what, he went home gassed her up, ran it and seized it. Brought it back and told the store manager that the sales guy never told him to add oil and he didn't "notice" the large bright yellow warning tags to add oil. You guessed it he was given a brand new unit that we oiled up, gassed up, and ran in front of the customer so there was no doubt on what to do!!!

Had a guy load an upright air compresser in the back of his truck. He didn't want to lay it down and wait for the oil to drain back when he got home. Well... it fell out of his truck an he brought it back and we gave him a new one.

Also had a guy bring in a dirty bumper that he bought new from us . It had obviously been attached to his truck. It now had a ding on it where you could guess that his trailer hit it on a tight corner. He claimed that it was like that out of the box and he hadn't noticed it. We gave him a new one.

Well there are some dumb people out there.

I was at Strauss bike and skate when a guy came INS tin his kids and started an arguement saying that his kids baggot a tear in it under the warrenty and the guy didn't have his reciept!! So they argued for about fifteen minutes and the guy finally left!!

The funny thing is that his kids, about 8-10 years old. He was using F-bombs in front of them!!!

And people wonder why prices go up..........

Yup, that is a big reason why we will all see very tough return policies come into effect in retail stores soon.

Many more vendors are implementing a "No return to store on defects policy" from the point of sale..now, so no matter what, it has to be returned to the manufacturer...not the retail outlet.

This was put into effect by the manufactures themselves, not the retailers, so retailers did not have to absorb so much shrink and loss and as an incentive to buy from the wholesaler or manufacturer. Most electronics will be this way if they are not now in "09".

This is also why you are seeing the protection plans on the upswing, so on some items it does pay to get the Summit Plans or extended warranty...to be 100% covered for on the spot point of sale return and replacement.

Word of advise..start a file for receipts and be sure to use it. Be it a house brand or not, no receipt=no return...this will be the standing policy on all sporting retail stores.

Some such as Gander and Cabela's have be preaty easy going on this, not any longer.

I knew a guy who worked in the sporting goods section of a department store. An irate customer came in demanding that they give him a new shotgun. He uncased his to show them its shattered barrel. He had fallen and plugged the barrel with mud and decided that the quickest way to clean it was to fire it. He said that a good quality gun should be able to handle this. He didn't get a new gun, poor guy.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
