A DUI will disqualify an applicant if it's within the past 5 yrs. Don't try and hide it (or anything for that matter) they will find it out in the background. Like any law enforcement position, the backgrounder knows you had a life before applying for the job. Be up front, show you have learned from any mistakes that were made and a stupid mistake won't be held against you.

COs start at $22.67 per hr as per their last contract.

Plus if you truly enjoy the outdoors and become a CO, you basically have no commute to work, get a 4x4 truck to drive, ATVs, snowmobiles, boats and even the possiblity of getting your pilots license.

To top it off, not everyone you encounter out in the field is doing something wrong. IMO, COs have a lower civil contact/infraction percentage whereas many of the times a City cop, Sheriff's Deputy or a State Trooper pulls you over, there's a reason other than to check your license.

If I were to get into Law Enforcement, the DNR would be the way to go.

It all comes down to how much they like you during your oral interview. If you are past your 5 year mark, it will all boil down to connections (recommendations) in the field and if they like your oral interview. Be straight forward DO NOT TRY AND HIDE IT, and take some re-hab classes to show that the DWI was a thing of your past and you are NOT an alcoholic.

Before College I debated going into the field of conservation, but after talking to a few and realizing that they work more than they fish and hunt, i decided not to. I couldn't work on every opener!!! I ended up choosing a degree in LE and working in the corrections field.

I am currently finishing up my law enforcement degree, well, about a year left anyway...finally decided to go back to finish what I started! Anyway I have looked into and talked a to a few people in the DNR and as previously stated, there is no way a DUI will get you past the door. Once I complete my degree and get POST certified, I will try to get in with the DNR, if so great, if not then I will keep trying even after I have a job in LE. Anyone in that field that I have talked to has said it's the best job in the world. Lots of flexibility and time off during the week, the best time to fish and hunt anyway IMO...

I have been waiting for a reply from the original poster to explain why they posed this question in the first place. I think we are all assuming that he/she is asking only for purposes of future employment.

I know of one situation where an individual was recently in Law Enforcement training, got a minor consumption and stayed in the class. He was removed from the program after #2.

As far as the DNR goes, the job requirements spell it out.

Exactly. That is why I smelled a "troll". IMO, when you post a question and there are tons of responses, you should make an attempt to "add to the discussion". Too much negative discussion about law officials.

      got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out

      Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!

      we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
