SStracker
A buddy and I are planning a trip for end of Feb beginning of March. We mainly fish bass so we were thinking about taking a road trip down south. Im just curious if any of you have recommendations on lakes or places? Right now we are leaning toward driving since we can take my boat and all our own gear, but we also have thought about flying out to cali and renting a boat. Any input would be appreciated, thanks! mamohr686
I'll be fishing Amistad with a group from Alexandria from 2/22-3/02.I caught the 10lb fish in my avitar during the same time 2 years ago. It's the ideal time for the pre-spawn pattern, when the males are shallow and the females just start to move up. Amistad has really high water right now, and the pros are predicting a very good chance at some share-a-lunker opportunites with all the new shallow cover. I've fished the Lake Fork area for about 10 years, and it doesn't really turn on until late march. Although, there are some smaller lakes in the area that will warm up quicker. SStracker
I'll be fishing Amistad with a group from Alexandria from 2/22-3/02 Is this your first time fishing it? Guessing from the pig in your avatar it wont be your first time down south. any advice or major differences in fishing there compared to here? mamohr686
The biggest difference is the way florida strain bass behave. They like to look at a bait a L-O-N-G time before they eat it, and cold fronts really shut them down. The windy and rainy weather is always the best fishing. When we fish Fork in the Spring, the water is super muddy and you can't even see your stainless prop in the water. Amistad has the clearest water you've ever seen. You can literally see every tree branch in 30ft of water. Swimbaits, spinnerbaits, and reaction baits work a lot better on Amistad. We have had better luck fishing plastics really slow in the fork area. Amistad Lunker And the replica Fork Area

Daze Off
We've gone to Table Rock in the Ozarks of Missouri a couple of times in the late winter/earlys pring and I would recommend it as well. 4 species of bass to mess with along with a very different fishing experience - no weeds in the entire lake and very clear water. Lodging is cheap too.
Bigguyone
Gotta do Falcon or Amistad that time of year usually but I talked to a pro that fished Falcon tourney last week and said water is SOOO high once the fish start to spawn it will be TOUGH due to SOOOOO much brush covered it water that usually is not....locating the fish and the density of the brush (as it is brush that has not been covered in years so it has leaves on it and such) will make it very hard. I was considering falcon the very end of Feb but may go hit Lake Fork on March 11th or 12th instead for the day based on talking to a couple people. Go to Texasfishingforum.com to get some more insight as to conditions...as I only have input from two people and that board has 100's of people to give you input.ENJOY soft water no matter where you go!
