I have always wanted to see a shuttle launch myself. I was in Orlando last year while a shuttle was schedule to launch. Unfortunately, the launch got scrubbed because of mechanical issues and wasn't rescheduled.

You can not be on the Kennedy Space Center property on launch day.

Check: NASA.gov; Kennedy Space Center tours HSOforum or do a web search of "viewing a space shuttle launch". Also, check the Titusville and Cocoa Beach tourism websites for info.

I have a friend who grew up in the Orlando area. Her and her family always went to Titusville. There is a city park downtown Titusville that is a popular launch viewing area. But! Get there early, at least a couple hours prior to launch. Bring a snack (picnic lunch)and be patient. It gets very crowded and traffic is bumper to bumper so plan for that too.

Wish I could go with ya! It would be an awsome site. It is the loudest man made noise! Take a Kennedy Space Center tour if you get the chance.

Have fun. Hope this helps.

I've been lucky enough to see two launches, both at night. One of the coolest things I've seen. When the sound wave hits you from the solid boosters its something you'll remember. Lit up the sky like daylight.

I watched from the shoreline in the town of Titusville. That was plenty close. The road/bridge areas heading to Cocoa Beach were very full of cars. I headed back to Orlando after the launches. One of the largest traffic jambs I've ever been in. Its worth it. Good Luck.

Thanks for the info guys! i wish it were a night launch, its schduled for like 7:32am, we get down there late the night before so it might be just a straight drive from orlando to where we are going to watch from, maybe nap in the rental for a hour or to...i told her i dont want to miss this for anything!
