Your pros & cons on two man portables ?

Here we go, I can set it up and take step by step pictures this weekend if that would help more.

H009.jpg

Basically used 3/4" particle board, jointed in the middle with a hinge so it will fold up nice.

The outside two poles on the ice house i drilled a small horizontal hole in each, inserted a 1/8" square stainless steel rod about 8" long through the hole. The shelf has aluminum brackets on each corner that sit over the stainless rods. In the center of the sheft i've got a support rod, light aluminum rod running from the bottom of the sheft to the floor. there is a bolt that is inserted through the plywood into the rod to be sure it doesn't move.

I can put a plenty of weight on this thing and it is completely stable.

Put your brain to work and you can do something similar yet origional.

I just found these materials layin around the shop.

This shelf comes completely apart, folds up nice. I keep the two stainless rods, and the bolt in my tackle box. I just fold up the shelf and lay it and the rod in the house when i'm done. Probably takes me 2minutes to set it up. But i love it. Fished in my buddies house the other day...without a shelf, man did i ever miss my shelf!

Good luck.

-hope the beer can doesn't offend anyone.

i like the old style clam cabins, (the biggest one) I have a clam fish trap style. the poles are chinsy as could be. iv bent just about everyone of them and broke one. im an aluminum welder, so quick fix. to many people though you could be sol. Also the new clams (deer ground blind style) at first glance i didnt like them but boy are they super roomy or what? bring yourself a strip of carpet for your feet and your golden.

I use a 2 man Clam fish trap with mounted seats and really am happy with it. It pulls nicely by hand but I usually use my atv. When I am by myself there is plenty of room for all my toys and when the second person is with there is room to sit and function. A friend of mine has a 3 man frabil which really is a great shack but if you want to pull it by hand you better be in shape. It pulls hard...

Just came in tonight after trying out my Trekker II Deluxe for the first time. Nice little shack. A little crowded for 2 guys but workable just need to sort things out a little better. Plenty warm and easy to heat. Great seats. Sled could be a little deeper. A good value for the price. My 2 cents worth.

I picked up the Cabela's version of the wild2, they call it "arctic element". It costs a little more and doesn't come with a cover or a bench(it has crappy buckets). It's great for one guy. If you fish two, make sure that the guy towards the back of the sled tells you when he gets up or you will tip the sled over.

I think that if I didn't have gift certificates, I would have bought either the Trekker Dlx or the guide.

i am debating on the wild 2 or 3 i am leaning towards the 2 as the 3 is 74 inches long and i have a 72 inch bed althought i could put it over the tailgate, most of the time it is just me and my son once in a while its my son daughter and wife so all 4 wouldnt get in the 2 but would in the 3 but me and my son both have artic armour suits! hm well after reading what i typed here i guess i will go with the 2 more then likely yeah ok thanks

I fish out of an old clam jr. Its a two man case style house.

Pros

-two people

-easy to set up

Cons

-very very cramped with all of the gear inside and two people

-clips on the poles break easy

-better suited for one person

Overall ts a good house for what we paid for it

I've got an Otter Cabin, and it is plenty big for 2 people, IMHO. And at 65" long it will fit into ANY truck bed (except the Ford Explorer Sporttrac) and had plenty of room for gear. Durable sled, reputable company, and quality design and materials. Drawbacks are weight, price, and cracking windows.

For $300 it's hard to beat the Otter Wild 2 which includes sled, canvas, poles, bench, and travel cover.

The new Otter windows are awesome. Stay plyable in the coldest weather I have ever fished in last week. -40 and they were still plyable. I think the days of cracking windows are over with the new material Otter is using.

I know lots of guys are happy with the two man ports but I can't stand them. fishing 3 ft apart with electronics going and completing for the same fish when they show up and hook setting into the canvas and so on and so on.

now if you want one for yourself thats different.

great for running and gunning and staying warm and not letting the world see what your up to.

If it where me I'd go with the 2 or 3 man one just for me.

    • got this tackled today took about 3 hours to get both sides done. Didnt even get to use a torch....   Thought I was golden with just jacking it up and I could get to everything but no luck. Had to remove the entire axle hub and brake assembly to get to what I needed. Was a pain but still better then taking off the entire pivot arm.    Axle bearings were already greased and in great shape thankfully. Got both leaf springs installed and its ready for the road again.   Probably going to have my electric brakes checked, I am not touching anything with the brake drums. Based on what I saw it doesn't look like my electric brakes have been working anyway. Brakes are nice to have if its slippery out
    • By The way that didn't work either!! Screw it I'll just use the cellular.
    • It’s done automatically.  You might need an actual person to clear that log in stuff up.   Trash your laptop history if you haven’t tried that already.
    • 😂 yea pretty amazing how b o o b i e s gets flagged, but they can't respond or tell me why I  can't get logged in here on my laptop but I can on my cellular  😪
    • I grilled some brats yesterday, maybe next weekend will the next round...
    • You got word censored cuz you said        B o o b ies….. haha.   Yeah, no… grilling is on hiatus for a bit.
    • Chicken mine,  melded in Mccormick poultry seasoning for 24 hours.  Grill will get a break till the frigid temps go away!
    • we had some nice weather yesterday and this conundrum was driving me crazy  so I drove up to the house to take another look. I got a bunch of goodies via ups yesterday (cables,  winch ratchet parts, handles, leaf springs etc).   I wanted to make sure the new leaf springs I got fit. I got everything laid out and ready to go. Will be busy this weekend with kids stuff and too cold to fish anyway, but I will try to get back up there again next weekend and get it done. I don't think it will be bad once I get it lifted up.    For anyone in the google verse, the leaf springs are 4 leafs and measure 25 1/4" eye  to eye per Yetti. I didnt want to pay their markup so just got something else comparable rated for the same weight.   I am a first time wheel house owner, this is all new to me. My house didn't come with any handles for the rear cables? I was told this week by someone in the industry that cordless drills do not have enough brake to lower it slow enough and it can damage the cables and the ratchets in the winches.  I put on a handle last night and it is 100% better than using a drill, unfortatenly I found out the hard way lol and will only use the ICNutz to raise the house now.
