plan a Canada trip this summer... help?

Recommended Posts

There will be four of us, we aren't looking for a fly-in, just a drive and fish w/cabins. One place of interest is Eagle lake because one of the guys fished there when he was young, but a lake of that size would probably mean I would keep my Basstracker pt 17ft at home. We would target Pike, smallies, and maybe a little musky action.

We are looking at spending around $650 for 4 days, any suggestions?

Any good small lakes we could hit that are a similar distance away?

Eagle is a very big lake and offers a wide variety of species. Cedarpoint is a decent place from what I have heard, maybe some others have been there and can confirm. We have drive in cabins on Off Lake and a boat in outpost on Pipestone Lake that would fit your budget and offers some great smallmouth fishing and pike as well. Take a look at our HSOforum and email me if you have any questions.

Hey Slob,

I see cedar point around at a few sport shows, but I don't know them personally. I'm sure there are a few guys on here that have been to eagle to give you a report on the lake.

If you are open for other suggestions, you can check us out also. We have exactly what you are looking for regarding Pike, SMB, Muskie, and we also have some trout. We are on Lower Manitou, its a good sized lake with very little traffic compared to all the bigger lakes in the area.

E-mail me at [email protected] with some questions and I would be happy to answer them.

Good Luck on the search.

Hey Slob,

Lucas is right the entire manitou system is over 30,000 acres, but 95% of the time we fish esox lake and the manitou stretch which is approx 6500 acres. Esox is a smaller lake with great numbers of fish and the stretch is approx. 11 miles long and it's widest point is only about 3-5 blocks across with some really nice bays. You have access to get up to the big lake, but you don't need to go up there.

You boat would be just fine if you wanted to bring it, the camp boats that they fished in for the past 40 years prior to this past year when I brought in 18' lund outfitters were 16' Lund Ssv with 25hp. and they were just fine, except I wanted to change to boats with flat floors and casting decks.

Again e-mail or call and I can give you some details of the lake.

It's nice to only be 5 hrs from you and virtually not seeing any boats around the camp except camp boats. There is something to be said about not having to play bumper boats on your vacation.

I have fished the Pipestone Chain of lakes for going on 9 years now every summer, and more recently, in the winter too. I live in the south metro, and can be up there in under 6 hours. The fishing is tough to beat for Smallmouth, Northern, Lake Trout, Muskie, with some Walleyes and Largemouth occasionally. I have fished many of the small lakes around the area as well. Send me a message if you have any questions, I'd be happy to help.

NoWiser - Welcome to Fishing Minnesota, hope you enjoy the site. Pipestone is an excellent system for multiple species. Definately a great fishery winter or summer, lots of water to explore, but it is broke up well enough that it is very easy to navigate and won't blow you off the lake.

Slob, to answer your original question, Eagle has become one of my favorite lakes to fish. It's not always easy, but it's beautiful, challenging, and offers an opportunity to catch a trophy of a lifetime.

Cedar Point Lodge I am sure is ok, however, if you are after walleyes you are not on prime location to catch them. I am 99% a Musky fisherman, Andy Meyers Lodge is without a doubt the best fishing camp that I think is available anywhere in Canada, however, it might be a little out of your price range.

Evergreen Lodge is further east on Eagle Lake, it's more of a quiet resort, very well priced and close to some good walleye fishing. There's also plenty of pike and muskies around there as well. Google it and check it out yourself.

you might want to look into Crow Lake, there you can target pike, musky, lake trout, bass and more. seems to be alot of options. we've stayed at a place there the last few summers and this winter we're trying out Muskybay Resort targeting lakers and crappies. its a lake where you wouldn't have any issues with a 17' boat as long as your careful. weather can come up anywhere but lots of places to get out of it too.
